   |   "In a review of the 1999 debut CD from the cross-country duo of      |
   |   Greg Malcolm from Cleveland, Ohio and Chad Mossholder from           |
   |   Boulder, Colorado, I referred to their work as being                 |
   |   "post-industrial" and exhibiting a combined influence of Autechre    |
   |   and Skinny Puppy. Two years along, Twine offers their second album   |
   |   proper (with a split CD, a 12" and a CD-ROM for Sonic Foundry        |
   |   released in the interim), and it's hard to believe that those        |
   |   words were written about the same group.                             |
   |                                                                        |
   |   Any evidence of Twine following some sort of IDM template or         |
   |   formula, however vague it might have been, is gone completely on     |
   |   the vinyl only album Circulation. Instead, the pair has turned in    |
   |   astounding set of experimental sound collage that is in another      |
   |   realm entirely. Found sounds and vocal fragments careen and loop     |
   |   through the mix, digital glitch and moody ambience collide in dark   |
   |   and beautiful ways, and rhythms seem to follow random patterns of    |
   |   their own devising. Like Autechre's Confield , Circulation owes a    |
   |   debt to such early experimental music visionaries as Pierre Henry,   |
   |   John Cage and Stockhausen, while still sounding completely           |
   |   current. It's a remarkable step forward for Twine in particular,     |
   |   and the American electronic music underground in general."           |
