█▐When local singer/songwriter/producer Eric Elbogen left Los Angeles for▌█ ▐█▐
█▐New York a few years back he left behind his band, Love Ruckus, one of ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐LA's most beloved indie rock outfits. That was the bad news. The good ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐news is that the Big Apple's been kind to this big talent, inspiring ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐him to form a new band, Say Hi To Your Mom. From the looks of its debut▌█ ▐█▐
█▐album, 'Discosadness,' Elbogen hasn't lost any ground. A humble ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐collection of self-produced bedroom-Barlow style indie pop, ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐'Discosadness' is a travelogue, a love letter, and the confessions of ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐bright-eyed West Coaster coasting in the big city all rolled into one. ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐Elbogen delivers his clever quips over layers of friendly guitars and ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐sprightly rhythms, with the occasional atmospheric swath of a synth or ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐sound effect thrown in for good measure. ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐ ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐Minor chords are welcome but there's not enough of them to spoil the ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐party; they simply lend it character. The result is a sugarcoated diary▌█ ▐█▐
█▐entry that's one of this year's most irresistible indie-pop albums. Be ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐sure to say hi to Eric Elbogen as he performs his new band's material ▌█ ▐█▐

█▐Say Hi To Your Mom is Eric Elbogen, a singer-songwriter who recorded ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐and mixed Discosadness in his bedroom on a hand-built binary box and ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐4-track cassette recorder. Despite the relatively bare bones recording ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐method, Elbogen manages to create a laid-back collection of mid-fi ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐indie-pop, leaning more towards the slumbering side of the spectrum, ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐while still delivering enjoyable melodies that make you want to hum ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐along. ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐Whether he's playing up the melodies or having the melodies chase him, ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐he always ensures the songs are capable of winning you over without ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐forcing it. From the whispery to the more upbeat, the album goes from ▌█ ▐█▐
█▐the dark to the light, the whimsical to the serious, smiling throughout▌█ ▐█▐
