chris franck, patrick forge, liliana chachian and oli savill's da
lata have undoubtedly delivered an album of the summer with 'songs
from the tin' and hot on the heels of the lp's sublime latin-dance
fusion comes a set of remixes to kill for.
west london housemaster phil asher, under his restless soul alias,
takes 'binti', the long-player's rumbling, percussive, samba
opener, and delivers two sensitively rendered, pulsatingly rhythmic
interpretations. first up comes the original with its plaintive
vocals and stripped-down harmony, followed by the 'inspiration
information' mix which cranks up the beats with clattering tribal
drums, scattered keys and subtle organ grooves. however, it is the
infectious 'off centre' treatment that takes the prize. smooth, yet
densely layered beats mesh with almost subliminal, jazz-soaked
synths and liliana's sultry vocals to create a deeply contagious
nouveau-brazilian anthem. music for all our tomorrows.
