│ Slicker is John Hughes - recording artist, owner and driving │
│ force behind the bustling Chicago based label Hefty Records, │
│ home to Telefon Tel Aviv. "Knock Me Down Girl" is the first song │
│ taken from SlickerÆs imminent, pan-global, soul-jazz album "We │
│ All Have A Plan". ôHonestö and ôorganicö are key words used by │
│ Hughes when describing his music. On this EP, ôKnock Me Down │
│ Girlö finds John fusing electronics & beats with accessable │
│ songwriting, enforcing the future roots vibe that he strives for │
│ thoughout the entire new album. Vocal duties are provided by │
│ Khadija Anwar, who as a fourteen year old, fronted the Sugar │
│ Hill funk outfit mid-70Æs, reissued recently as part of the │
│ Aestuarium Chicago One stop triple pack we hold so dear. Dan │
│ Boadi, the Ghanian vocalist and musician, who graced the second │
│ Aestuarium release, also provides guest vocals. Not to mention │
│ instrumental backing by other special guests including Joshua │
│ Eustis of current darlings Telefon Tel Aviv, Wendell Harrison - │
│ Detroit jazz legend of the Tribe collective amongst others. With │
│ the album due to land in about a month, the twelve provides a │
│ nice warm-up for the real meat of the full length. This four │
│ tracker features the original version of ôKnock Me Down Girlö, │
│ an instrumental version, as well as remixes of the title track │
│ Hefty's new japanese signing æSpanovaÆ and label mates Telefon │
│ Tel Aviv. │
