      Written off by the critics, especially those in the eastern             
      states as a bottom four side, the Eagles with a young list              
      and a rookie coach faced a monumental task to prove the                 
      doubters wrong. But they did and how. A finals campaign and             
      more importantly, the respect of the football world were the            
      result of hard work, dedication and inspirational coaching              
      from club legend John Worsfold. The Eagles are big and strong           
      and aggressive and just about unbeatable at Subiaco. After a            
      couple of years in the wilderness, the story of the West                
      Coast in 2002 could best be described as a stepping stone to            
      future success. Led by the exciting Ben Cousins and backed by           
      veterans Glen Jakovich, Ashley McIntosh and Peter Matera who            
      have found a new lease of life, a return to the glory years             
      of 1992 and 1994 is just around the corner.
