rhian benson is a new british / african singer, songwriter and
musician.
the daughter of a welsh mother and an ashanti dignitary from
ghana, rhian's musical heritage reaches back to the 50s & 60s when
her grandfather led an acclaimed big band whilst her uncle was a
popular highlife singer.
counting the sounds of miles davis, stevie wonder and the
legendary fela kuti amongst her many influences, rhian wrote the
lyrics and music for her debut album herself before co-producing
the final lp with grammy winning producers bob power and james
poyser (between them they've worked with the roots, a tribe called
quest, victor duplaix, chaka khan, erykah badu, jill scott and
d'angelo).
"say how i feel" is the first international 12inch single from the
debut lp "gold coast" and features stunning guest appearances from
dwele & slum village on a slamming remix produced by the acclaimed
bugz in the attic collective out of west london.
the remix is getting support from gilles peterson's "worldwide"
and benji b on radio 1, patrick forge on kiss and x-fm's nick
luscombe amongst others.
the flipside features a house mix from newcomers - the waves of
london - which has been receiving huge support from numerous
quarters, including the ministry of sound show who have called it
æthe best house mix since crystal waters'.
rhian has been receiving huge early press support and has already
been featured on the cover of blues & soul magazine and the mobo
awards magazine.
