Released on the Cavernicola label in January 2012, Che
Sudaka's 10 is their second studio album, celebrating their
tenth anniversary as a band. Regrettably but unavoidably, it
is another album that has had to wait far too long in the
queue.
Che Sudaka is a band of Argentinean and Colombian musicians
based in Barcelona, Spain, with an exciting Latin American
groove based sound. 10 is a mature manifestation of this
sound, with ten irresistible grooves. This reminds of the
kind of sounds I frequently used to encounter on various
South American, and especially Colombian and Venezuelan,
radio stations while living in the region. So quite
nostalgic, in a way, at a personal level.
If 10 has one flaw for me, it is that at about thirty-five
minutes it is perhaps just a little too short. It just seems
to fly by in no time. But one can compensate for this by
listening all over again. It is the kink of album one can
happily listen to for hours on end. Not demanding, and
squarely falling into the 'world beat' category, this is
nonetheless a hugely enjoyable album. Not to mention, a
fabulous dance album.
Consistent throughout, there is also something about 10
that makes it more than just compelling. It is a highly
attractive and even addictive album. At the same time, it is
distinct and original enough to distinguish itself from the
pack.
Che Sudaka's 10 should have wide appeal among 'world music'
aficionados, and surely must be something of a must have for
groove based 'world beat' lovers. Ten hot Latin grooves that
you really shouldn't be without!
