something about those little pills, unreel the thrills they yield
until they kill a million brain cells!
yep, mr. jones┤s lunatic alter-ego is back with this moving
tribute to his favorite tellytubby, or should that be a song about
drugs? aren┤t they the same thing?
from the first sounds to jump off the record it┤s clear that the
velvet one is at the controls a tight kick stomps it┤s 4/4 tattoo
all over your speakers while a similarly inimitable analogue
squelch injects immediate funk. this is classic green velvet from
the off, and that┤s before the insane vocal rant / sermon even
begins.coming on like a cross between the anthemic flash, and the
alienation-themed land of the lost, curtis jones is back on his
snappy observation tip sounding like david bowie and falco thrown
in the chi-town blender. you can never quite take his comments
onboard as sound
advice respectable role models rarely have green blocks glued to
their head, but this is tone is at least in some way cautionary
that┤s right listen to this man┤s words, for he surely knows best
perhaps aside from his fashion tips that is.
taken from the forecoming long player, entitled whatwever, it┤s
been a while since cajmere┤s techno alter ego has graced our
turntabables with the new material. this is the first since 1999┤s
constant chaos album, and it┤s accompanying ┤coitus (remix)
┤single. musically, there are similar elements and aforementioned
tinny kick bearing much resenblance, yet whilst his album proper
deviated from imfectious vocal tunes, this is sure to put green
velvet back in record boxes across the lala land (sorry).
with a flipside remix from green velvet himdelf appearing as geo
vogt (yet another alias), the theme is maintained, but warped into
an almost unrecognisable new form. techno flavours are meshed with
a retro feel, and given a dash of typically tweaked out
chicago-ism. the vocal is used sparingly this time, with emphasis
on the music itself. as such, it manages to avoid that
frustratting feeling of ending up with two almost identical
remixes of the same track.
