One of a number of record labels founded by entrepreneur Morgan
Clyde 'Bobby' Robinson in the late 50's, Fire Records was a sister
to Fury, which registered a Number 1 on the Billboard chart in 1959
with Wilbert Harrison's "Kansas City". Fire was formed when Savoy
Records, to which Harrison was still under contract, sued Fury for
compensation; Fire had originally been intended as the label's
publishing arm. When he died in 2011, age 93, the Bluesworld website
described Bobby Robinson's life as 'a six-decade saga of survival in
an often ruthless business wherein longevity entailed having both
the instincts and fortitude to adapt to the ever-shifting tastes of
the public.' This compilation of music from the Fire vaults tells a
tantalising part of that story.
