          release notes:

David Tipper, aka Tipper, has been at the forefront of one
electronic music movement after the next. Although, like
many other artists over the past few decades, to say that
Tipper has been limited by the label-based industry would be
an understatement. Thus, it was not until 2005 that Tipper
established his own structure for releasing his music,
          appropriately christened Tippermusic.

At a time when musicians were discovering the power of
digital distribution, Tipper began to really come into his
own as an artist. This is not to say his work prior to 2005
was lacking; rather, a newly unleashed Tipper increased his
output both quantitatively and qualitatively - an impressive
          feat for any artist.

Fast forward through a few years in which Tipper both
kickstarted and heavily influenced the glitch and trip hop
genres, and we find ourselves with a Tipper that has toned
things down a bit. "Forward Escape" is the latest in his
efforts in a more downtempo direction, and it does not
          disappoint.

Tipper kicks things off with "Portal Spillage", a name that
conjures images of what runneth over between the boundaries
of two interconnected spaces. The track is filled with
bubbling percussion and semi-industrial synths, and coupled
with a very chill ambiance, the result is not quite
          relaxing, but oddly satisfying.

This is the kind of track I'd expect to hear robots blazing
          to in the distant future.

"Homage Sliders", an early pick for top honors on this
album, fuses elements of electro, jazz, and eastern
influences; the sheer amount of emotion that Tipper is able
to elicit from these sounds is inspiring. Some nods to acid
and other genres that have dominated electro in the past are
a nice touch. This track, for me, really epitomizes the
visual that serves as the cover art for the album: a precise
blend of electronic music and soul.

Another brilliant piece moves in a more serene and
mysterious direction. "Life Raft For A Death Trip" begins
innocently enough, as a nautically-themed exploration into
the elements, but things take a turn as the raft swaps out
the Euphrates for Styx. Again, Tipper manages to draw a huge
amount of expression out of a rather minimalist set of
          sounds.

But this is sort of the draw of this album, which is a set
of contrasting ideas. Simple yet complicated. Relaxing but
intense. Intelligent without becoming overbearing. With
Forward Escape, Tipper has marked his territory yet again,
this time in a genre that may best be described as
          psychedelic downtempo.

Set aside about an hour. Go for a drive, or just find a
comfy spot on the couch, and let your mind go. The album's
          title is quite apropos.
