▓ Japanther's latest release The Operating Manual For ▓
▓ Life Here on Earth is a sleek, gorgeous document of ▓
▓ integrity and resistance. It's a one-sided 12" record ▓
▓ sleeved in clear vellum, a simple yellow and black ▓
▓ insert with "Japanther" written all drippy. The ▓
▓ flipside is an etching by graffiti artist UFO 907 ▓
▓ whose wide-eyed alien-octopus spaceships are found ▓
▓ all over New York. Their sound is punk in that it's ▓
▓ passionate and hard and loud and dirty, but with ▓
▓ poppier beats, sweeter keyboard melodies, and smart ▓
▓ sampling (inspired, so I've learned, by GoGo, a D.C. ▓
▓ funk movement. Whether plugging into a streetlight on ▓
▓ a corner in Brooklyn, playing a gallery in Chelsea, ▓
▓ opening for Ol' Dirty Bastard, or touring clubs and ▓
▓ underground artspaces all over the U.S. and ▓
