▐█▓▌ █▓ This is 2015, Dj Hidden needs no █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ introduction. Any drum'n'bass head been █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ confronted to his music at one point since █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ this musician's debut in the late 90's, any █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ hardcore fan knows his Outside Agency █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ project, and rare are the electronic █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ producers who have not been influenced by █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ his production techniques, his beat-making █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ or his innovations. To cut a long story █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ short: if you aren't yet familiar with DJ █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ Hidden, it's high time you get out of your █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ cave. █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ Such an album as "Directive" is therefore █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ eagerly awaited, its tracks closely █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ inspected and its approach thoroughly █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ analysed. A couple of years after the █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ odyssey that was "Enclosed" (Ad Noiseam █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ adn173), DJ Hidden's fourth full length █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ album had to live up to very high █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ expectations. Verdict? It does, of course. █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ Whereas some might have expected DJ Hidden █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ to deliver a crossbreed album, "Directive" █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ isn't (just as The Outside Agency's "The █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ Dogs Are Listening" already wasn't). And █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ those expecting a cinematically tied █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ collection such as "Enclosed" will also █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ have to do a double take. With its very █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ defined tracks, its calm moments and its █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ frantic ones, its dancefloor aspects and █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ its vocal snippets, this new album is █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ probably the closest to a song-based work █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ that Noel Wessels has ever come up with. █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ From the syncopated "Poltergeist" to the █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ club-packing "Arctic", MC Coppa's supported █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ "The Hour" or "You're Not Real" (which █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ might or not be an answer of sort to █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ "Enclosed"'s "Surface Understanding"), DJ █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ Hidden's fourth studio album might be both █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ his most diverse and his most exhilarating. █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ At least as hard as "The Words Below" was █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ and once again displaying a progression in █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ its production, "Directive" is true to its █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ name in the way it seems to have its own █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ guidelines for DJ Hidden's current █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ material: mixing cinematic ambiances and █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ soulful moments with a wider range of █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ tonalities and an underlined energy. █▓ ▐█▓▌

▐█▓▌ █▓ more a Noel Wessels album than a DJ Hidden █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ one: "Directive" seems to underline how the █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ artist in its whole has taken over the █▓ ▐█▓▌
▐█▓▌ █▓ moniker, unfolding yet again its skills on █▓ ▐█▓▌
