Side A - Attic

Attic results from a work on quiet piano textures revealed by a soft fingering
technique. I cranked up the microphones and recorded the piece with headphones
on. That allowed me to focus on the details, resulting in a composition with a
soft and gentle feel. I wrote this piece while daydreaming of all those people
that may never hear it, a song for someone I haven't met. Then, I began to think
of a place where unheard songs could be kept, such an attic, in which things
have been forgotten for a long time, laying thereàwaiting to be found.

Composed, recorded and mastered by Julien Marchal
Moth was born during an improvised session at the piano during which, by chance,
the microphones were plugged in. Since it basically was a rhythm exercise
consisting of fitting a melody in between two tides of notes, I asked myself a
simple question: "how can I bring out a melody while both of my hands are
looping around on the keyboard ?" Gradually a melody blossomed from the keys
struck by my thumb. Ever since then I let myself go with the sounds coming from
the piano while keeping in mind the starting point of the exercise.
