Bert began performing his unique synthesis of folk, blues and
jazz on the folk club scene of the early sixties, having
hitch-hiked to London from his hometown of Edinburgh
Jack Orion (last track) was a song that he had previously
recorded with Pentangle actually it is a whole side of
Pentagle's great album "Cruel Sister").
This version of Jack Orion was recorded in 1966 the year this
album was first released as an LP by the label Earmark.
Jansch shows his amazing guitar playing on all tracks. John
Renbourn, Bert's flatmate at the time and also extraordinary
folk artist, plays on four tracks.
Bert Also plays banjo on the first track.
The choice of songs was a change for Bert in that they are
almost all traditional.
Bert Jansch's ground-breaking guitar playing, deeply affecting
songwriting and dark, passionate voice have held audiences
spellbound since the mid-sixties. Famously admired by Jimmy
Page, Neil Young, Nick Drake and others he still getting fansin
younger generations of guitar players, notably Jarvis Cocker
from Pulp and Jhonny Marr have declared themselves fans of his
works.
