│ Recording information: 1927 - 1941. Taking inspiration from ││
│ Ken Burns's JAZZ documentary, this JAZZ MOODS compilation is ││
│ the perfect point of departure for those seeking to better ││
│ understand the swing era and the roots of jazz composition. ││
│ Duke Ellington was the premier jazz composer of his time, ││
│ and his bands brought constant innovation to a quickly ││
│ evolving and ever-expanding style of music. The songs on ││
│ this collection still sound fresh, exciting, and vibrant. ││
│ From the album's opener, "Hot and Bothered" to "Battle of ││
│ Swing" to "Tootin' Through the Roof," this disc really ││
│ swings. This can be attributed to the terrific musicianship ││
│ of Ellington's finest players, including Ben Webster (tenor ││
│ saxophone), Juan Tizol (trombone), Rex Stewart (trumpet), ││
│ and others. Of course, an Ellington compilation would never ││
│ be complete without the indelible "It Don't Mean a Thing (If ││
│ It Ain't Got That Swing)" and the lively "Take the 'A' ││
│ Train," two songs that will forever be imprinted onto the ││
│ collective fabric of jazz music. ││
