│ all deserve nice Holiday cheers. This is truly dedicated to ││

│ Recording information: 1964 - 1977. Producer Richard Seidel ││
│ put together an excellent compilation with the tracks heard ││
│ on this installment of Columbia's JAZZ MOODS series. It's ││
│ not easy choosing the brightest moments of a jazz legend ││
│ like saxophonist Stan Getz, since he's appeared on so many ││
│ releases, and his musicianship is consistently so ││
│ astonishing. However, Seidel's choice of repertoire here ││
│ holds up to even the harshest of jazz standards. "Double ││
│ Rainbow," "Ligia," and "Aguas De Marco" from Getz's ││
│ collaborations with Joao Gilberto are unforgettable tracks ││
│ that represent a central aspect of Getz's career--his ││
│ fascination with Brazilian bossa nova. However, Getz's ││
│ jazzier work with pianist Jimmy Rowles and valve trombonist ││
│ Bob Brookmeyer are also included here, and these selections ││
│ help to round out the album's track list. Rowles's ││
│ impressionistic ballad "The Peacocks" is probably the ││
│ collection's high point. Here the haunting melody is both ││
│ sweet and sorrowful, and Getz's silky, legato tone is enough ││
│ to induce goose bumps. ││
