On the 3rd album from this Pennsylvania artist, Gibson sings with a warm,
encompassing voice thatÆs soft, but gently intense with a haunting edge of
depth & mystery, occasionally moving into a deeper register, which takes the
song to a darker level of subtle drama. There are big, reverberating washes of
guitar notes that twang with a friendly resonance and then hang in the air
like ghosts in a vacant hallway. Strings, Saxophone, slide guitar,
synthesizers and pianos sometimes float up from the floor in wispy tendrils of
a late night club atmosphere, where everyone grooves with a slow, opiate
purpose. These are songs that reach for a place you may not want to go, but
they do it with such a strange & welcoming aura of beauty & sincerity that
youÆll want to be thereùif just for the ride. Contributors have played in
Pearls & Brass, Eleventh Dream Day, Pearl Jam, Master Musicians of Bukkake,
Earth, The Zincs, Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter, The Long Winters,
Recycled Trash, The Dead Kenny Gs, etc. Gibson is sometimes reminiscent of
David McComb (The Triffids), Barry Adamson, Nick CaveÆs mellow side, Wymond
Miles, Mike Sempert, John Martyn, David Lynch. ôCarnationö feels like a real
grower, a quietly surrounding embrace of moody warmth. Nice.
