BIO - Aaron Robinson
Aaron Robinson, 20 years old, has been making waves in the
underground dance music scene with his fresh, genre-defying
mix tapes for the past year. Still a relative unknown in his
local Chicago scene, Robinson, already an accomplished jazz
musician, has quickly built a listener base that spans the
globe and numbers in the tens of thousands. His signature
mix of house, techno, and breaks is thrilling, exacting, and
a welcome break from the sounds that dominate the scene
today.
2002 saw Robinson, alongside fellow Chicago dj Adam
Grealish, launch the La Bodega DJ Camp website
(www.labodegadjcamp.com), a simple page that hosts mixes
from hand picked dj's in the up and coming ranks, as well as
their own mixes. Now one year old, the website boasts
thousands of frequent visitors, and is considered by many to
be one of the premier dj mix pages. The site's biggest
success date is Grealish and Robinson's "The Bodega Method"
tag set, a concept mix that wows with technical trickery,
new sounds, and has been downloaded over 15,000 times. Along
with this success, Robinson has been invited to spin at
Chicago clubs Big Wig and Bar 3.
This mix for Proton Radio was performed live with three
Technics SL1200M3D's, dual Denon DN-D4000 cd players, and a
Behringer dx1000 seven channel mixer. It begins with mellow
grooves and builds up to peak hour techy sounds. The theme
of this mix is direction of sound. Where the sound was,
where it is, and where I hope the sound is headed. Thus,
it's a fairly no-nonsense home listening mix that forgoes
dj-friendly party tracks for more musical fare. Enjoy.
