======================================
"Sounds of Funk Revue: from P-FUNK to HIPHOP!"
The legendary Funkoutfit Grand Slam returns to the scene
after a 20-months hiatus with a brandnew album, a
brandnew line-up and a brandnew transformation of their
very own universe of black grooves. In its 19th year of
existence, the multicultural group again has remixed its
blend of musical vibes from different sources, multiple
influences and various likings into a very enjoyable
musical cocktail, designed to cause massive
booty-shakin' all across Europe's liveclub and festival
audiences.
From Grand Slam's deep roots in the P-Funk vibe
(Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton),
the musical journey leads you to todays HipHop acts with
a live concept (The Roots, Outkast, De la Soul). From
their own starting days in the Old School Funk of the 80s
(Cameo, Midnight Star, Lakeside), the sound has developed
into the neo-soul consciousness of the new Millennium
(Erykah Badu, D'Angelo). Grand Slam's sound in 2004 is
not restricted by any musical guidelines, one minute you
will dance to original 70s funk, a second later you find
yourself being part of an almost pop-appealing
rock/rave-tune, reminding you of dj-remixes of
old U2 singles. And, while merging all these different
musical spheres, the band has once again managed to keep
their very own distinctive and recognizable sound. If
you're not completely deaf, dumb and blind, you will
realise that the definite central thread of Grand Slam's
2004 program is:
"WE'VE COME TO MAKE YOU DANCE!"
On stage you'll witness the following individuals:
Bavaria's blue-eyed Soulbrother No1., Oliver
Fourwheel"Allwardt, Grand Slam's lead vocalist since
1987, has regained its spot on the lead-mic, screamin'
an' shoutin', whisperin' an' moanin' like
nobody else in the hood. Backin' him up we got: Eric
"LeShraah" Rohner on lead vocals and tenor-sax. Besides
many others, he has been working with legendary French
Funkateers Malka Family and his very own funk-outlet In
Effect. Recently he is busy with Dele Sosimi & his
Afrobeat Orchestra, a London-based group led by Fela
Kuti-alumni Dele Sosimi. To complete the vocal
section, we are proud to introduce a new member of the
group, "Papa Joe" Palmer Murphy from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who
has been singing with various Reggaegroups in Germany. The
rhythm section consists of: Bandleader Toby Mayerl (aka
The Cosmic Pope) on synthesizers, organ and vocoder.
Since January 1985 he delivers his goods to the Grand
Slam sound and is responsible for many of their original
compositions. On guitar we have 1998-arrival
Michael "Dandy" Dandorfer, an incredible versatile and
extraordinary player, who has gained a great reputation
amongst our fans and all funk-lovers, ever since he
joined the group. New on drums is Georg Fruth, a young
cat with the right groove, keepin' it together and on the
One with new bass-player Norbert Rauch (one of former
Grand Slam-Bassist' Harry Zawrel's master
students!). To complete the new line-up, we got Andy "HT"
Ketzer on the turntables. "Plan B", as he is labelled,
adds brand new sounds and samples to Grand Slam's unique
performance and is ready to kill any audience with his
scratchin' skills. Brandnew addition to the group is MC
Man-E-Faces from South-German HipHop-group Lingo Trade.
With his rhyming skills and extraordinary flow he gives
some of the group's songs a special touch, live and on
the new CD.
Just lookin' at the history, the band has performed
almost 300 concerts in front of an innumerable amount of
excited and overwhelmed livemusic-fans in 11 European
countries (Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, Netherlands,
Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakian Republic, Austria,
Switzerland, Italy). In the past years Grand Slam
featured guest artists like Gary "Mudbone"
Cooper (Bootsy's Rubberband) and Rockin' Rick Gardner
(Horny Horns). They were joined on stage by stars like
Dave Stewart (Eurhythmics), The Edge (U2), Karl Keaton,
Menace, Bootsy Collins and the girls from All Saints,
they shared the bill with groups like Fury in the
slaughterhouse, Luther Allison, Patrice and Jocelyn B.
Smith, just to name a few. And now they are ready to hit
you again !!!!! With the Funk, the real Funk,
the uncut Funk, The Bomb !!!! New CD will be out on june
09 on Dutch-based FunkToTheMax-Records, we will present
it live at the "Kitchenclub" Nabburg, Germany.
