On what is perhaps the best Deepfunk release to date, the L.A. based
label looks to the production talents of none other than Richard Gow
and his Rhythm Slaves guise. On this EP, Richard shows us why he is
leading the way for live house music. After catching his live show in
Miami at the WMC this year, this EP is but a glimpse into the talents
of this man.
The title track is a stomping house workout; beginning with a nice
standard 4/4 foundation, Richard layers live guitar, bass and keys
over some smooth vocal work. The percussion fades in and out of
earshot, making this one a must for the late-night house DJs. The
track proceeds to get treatment from East Coast Boogiemen, who give
it a shot of a jackin', tech-fueled style.
On the flip, The Rurals give the track an even deeper touch with
moody keys and softer percussion. As previously stated, this must be
the best Deepfunk outing to date, leaving you wondering what else
this imprint has in store.
