7" vinyl ltd 2000
During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko
sleepwalks out of his house one night and sees a giant, demonic rabbit
who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds.
Electronic auteur Daedelus and Mush Records' founding sound collagist
Boom Bip use Richard Kelly's film as inspiration for this limited split
seven-inch project. Both artists display a refined brillance in their handling
and reworking of the source material. This is the 2nd Mush limited edition seven-inch.
Beautiful, eerie music from Donnie Darko, re-jigged by the Daedelus and
Boom Bip, a side a piece. It's got a cinema still from the film on the front
and the Daedelus mix is the most lovely thing. Skittery beats & strangeness
oozing from it's every pore whilst the incidental soundtrack twinkles in the
background. The Boom Bip side is more obtuse and baffling but still refreshing.
Called '28:06:42:12' after the coded time and date till the end of the world, this is
one for avant hiphop buffs and DD fanatics alike.
A lovely record ! - Norman Records
The title comes from the date and hour that Donnie Darko is told the world will
end by that crazed bunny. Daedelus and Boom Bip (like us) are massive fans of
Richard Kelly's masterpiece and here take elements of the film soundtrack and vision
to provide a side each for this 7" homage.
Daedelus continues his sampling madness, fusing odd time signatures
(play at 33 or 45), with rustic rhythms making an oddly demented jam that'll weird
you out like the movie Itself, complete with sublime piano sampling to make your h
airs stand on end. Boom Bip takes a sideways slide away from his melodic material to
get into a weirdly euphoric rolling drum beat jam, with layers of droning harmonics
that bring the eighties soundtrack in the film to mind. 2000 copies for the world
with a strict no repress policy. (from http://www.boomkat.com)
