│║ Hailing from Goteborg, in the sunny south side ║ │
│║ of Sweden, DIAMOND DAWN's debut release ║ │
│║ ôOverdriveö is a great way to start a career, a ║ │
│║ nice album, utterly melodic but perhaps a bit ║ │
│║ too conventional or too agreed, maybe too ║ │
│║ dogmatic. Nonetheless, DIAMOND DAWN is composed ║ │
│║ by a bunch of talented musicians that wears ║ │
│║ proudly their obvious influences on their ║ │
│║ tattooed sleeves with a predicted bright future ║ │
│║ coming, a band that would be better to keep ║ │
│║ watching closely for the subsequent years. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Those swede young blokes are playing an ║ │
│║ unadulterated classic Melodic Hard rock with ║ │
│║ some elements borrowed to the 80s Pomp Rock ║ │
│║ mixed with of course a nice zest Scandi AOR, a ║ │
│║ tasteful mix between SURVIVOR and TREAT (ôGive ║ │
│║ It Allö). All the codes of the genre are ║ │
│║ respectfully reactivated: like a powerful lead ║ │
│║ vocalist, cleverly seconded by some traditional ║ │
│║ choir arrangements like rich, harmonized and ║ │
│║ melodic layers of backing vocals, some strong ║ │
│║ hooks, a few short but cool lead guitar licks, a ║ │
│║ solid and discreet bass & drums rhythm section ║ │
│║ and a nice singing keys, very up-front mixed ║ │
│║ with whirling synthetized sounds. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ DIAMOND DAWN's biggest problem is that we ║ │
│║ already heard their stuff earlier on, at least a ║ │
│║ thousand times, and it is a sense of routine ║ │
│║ which predominates under an idea that all this ║ │
│║ is predictable, a feeling that is only beaten by ║ │
│║ their undeniable and easy to see musical ║ │
│║ abilities. While the earliest tracks are ║ │
│║ sounding more or less American, as ôTake Me ║ │
│║ Higherö, ôDon't Walk Awayö or ôInto Overdriveö ║ │
│║ pretty much in the GIUFFRIA style or indeed ║ │
│║ really near, the rest is very much typical of ║ │
│║ the Scandinavian sound: ôStanding As Oneö could ║ │
│║ have been easily an H.E.A.T.'s track and ║ │
│║ ôPowergamesö seems like, fellows DYNAZTY's next ║ │
│║ hit single, but there is also some slight ║ │
│║ surprises, like when DIAMOND DAWN are showing ║ │
│║ some more Proggy inflections with unexpected ║ │
│║ tunes like ôCalifornia Rushö or ôThe Hunterö. ║ │
│║ Keep on working like this, guys: This is the ║ │
│║ right shining path to the triumphal success. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ After a sale-crash-disaster for the however very ║ │
│║ interesting WIGELIUS album named "Reinventions", ║ │
│║ the tenacious staff from Frontiers Records is ║ │
│║ proud to demonstrate another time again, their ║ │
│║ absolute focused faith, their unquestioning ║ │
│║ dedication and also their persistency, in ║ │
│║ finding new acts that are still in the draft ║ │
│║ early state and ready to be polished in order to ║ │
│║ reveal its potential, and that could turn into a ║ │
│║ real diamond jewels. The AOR Mafia's cynics will ║ │
│║ talk and talk again until exhaustion. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ This first album is a pure dose of adrenaline ║ │
│║ that can be provided only by the natural ║ │
│║ juvenile energetic tension, a fistful of sing- ║ │
│║ along songs for the nostalgic geeks but not ║ │
│║ only, itÆs also a good hot-shot for the melodic ║ │
│║ Hard Rock addicts, that need some electric music ║ │
│║ fix, with class, attitude and style in the true ║ │
│║ 80s like fashion. The lack of risk in the ║ │
│║ songwriting which is a little bit predictable ║ │
│║ and the generic production, should be considered ║ │
│║ as rookie errors, I believe, that those ones are ║ │
│║ easy to correct, and so, they need support in ║ │
│║ overcoming the mistakes of youth. The dawn of ║ │
│║ their overdriven sound is a true diamond in the ║ │
│║ rough. ║ │
