█║░ One with the Sun is an album of ░║█
█║░ contrasts; vast volumes of liquid ░║█
█║░ synths are blasted with atomic surges ░║█
█║░ of rock drumming and convulsing bass. ░║█
█║░ Pete Cafarella provides the rolling, ░║█
            █║░ Kraftwerk-like synth movements, while ░║█
█║░ Nate Smith pounds out explorative ░║█
█║░ rhythms reminiscent of Rush, building ░║█
█║░ the foundation for a synthesis of ░║█
            █║░ decades of influence, from '80s ░║█
            █║░ synth-rock to modern electro-clash. ░║█
            █║░ ░║█
█║░ Opener "The Noise Won't Stop" is One ░║█
            █║░ with the Sun's standout track, ░║█
█║░ boasting an unbelievably catchy vocal ░║█
            █║░ presence intertwined with a glitch- ░║█
█║░ pulsing synth and hammering live ░║█
█║░ drums. The frantic soundscapes are ░║█
█║░ minimalist in terms of ░║█
            █║░ instrumentation, but the synth-and- ░║█
█║░ drums duo radiates an astonishing ░║█
█║░ fullness. It might have something to ░║█
█║░ do with the excellent mixing, or it ░║█
█║░ could be the tightness built during ░║█
█║░ Shy Child's five year existence. One ░║█
█║░ with the Sun packs an evolving synth ░║█
█║░ that builds to a peak, then releases ░║█
█║░ delicious sonic climaxes, turning ░║█
            █║░ once-fluid sound into a grating, ░║█
█║░ rusty buzzsaw that powers through the ░║█
█║░ mix, churning within your belly. ░║█
            █║░ ░║█
█║░ This is The Rapture's digifunk with ░║█
            █║░ a razor's edge; Shy Child can't pull ░║█
█║░ off the same melodic finesse, but ░║█
█║░ they drench the edges of their work ░║█
█║░ with raw, ragged desperation and ░║█
            █║░ sprawling landscapes. ░║█
            █║░ Compositionally, "Summer" develops a ░║█
█║░ visually stunning moment of dusky ░║█
█║░ sunsets and sexual reunions and ends ░║█
█║░ on an apathetically melancholy note, ░║█
█║░ enraptured by reverb. "Technicrats" ░║█
█║░ is essentially a misstep for the duo, ░║█
            █║░ with a repetitious Usher-like ░║█
            █║░ stuttering vocal and a discordant ░║█
            █║░ percussion movement. The album's ░║█
█║░ quality seems slightly weighted ░║█
█║░ towards its early tracks, where ░║█
            █║░ you'll detect a cohesive melodic ░║█
█║░ vision; as the track numbers rise, so ░║█
█║░ does the successful structure. ░║█
            █║░ ░║█
█║░ Blemishes aside, Shy Child create an ░║█
█║░ atmosphere in which it is impossible ░║█
█║░ to stay seated. One with the Sun sets ░║█
█║░ its surroundings in motion and ░║█
█║░ demands attention. This music retains ░║█
█║░ a "get in or get out" attitude. You'd ░║█
█║░ be wise to get in on it, for it feels ░║█
            █║░ a lot like life. ░║█
