| Friends, Critics, Concerned Listeners, |
| |
| The undersigned herby submits a formal apology for |
| all raps committed to compact disc and vinyl from |
| the period of 1998 to the spring of 2001, which |
| covers the span of his first fledgling recorded |
| verses to the now-extingished body of his earliest |
| solo songs. These scattered bits of work were |
| usually, but not exclusively, performed under the |
| pretend name "the pedestrian," and were released on |
| various labels, including anticon, Mush; and |
| Weapon-Shaped. |
| The undersigned offers by way of defense the |
| observation that it's a very strange business he so |
| naively wandered into; one simply does a rap, and |
| six months later it arrives at one's doorstep, a |
| tiny, stinging, shrink-wrapped regret. His second |
| line of defense, if it can properly be called that, |
| suggests that in a first world visited by epidemic |
| obsity, which ceases not at the abdomen but pushes |
| through to record stores, book shelves, hard drives, |
| and cineplexes as well, these impoverished, lowprint |
| songs cannot account for more than the shortest |
| breath of the loneliest fleck of dust. |
| a list, constructed to the best of the undersigned's |
| memory, of the songs referred to in the foregoing: |
| "I Am, We Are," with Sole, from his "Music Without a |
| Face" cassette. "Holy Shit!" with Circus and the |
| Sebutones, from the first anticon record. Those |
| verses on those two songs from the Shapeshifters' |
| otherwise fine "Planet of the Shapes." "lyrical |
| Cougel" on the first Them album. "Bright Moments." |
| Any extant live recordings from the third stage of |
| the "Free Fred Hampton, Jr. Fun-ival and Fair." |
| "Become, Became, Undone." with Eyedea and Sole. |
| "Talkin' Tim LaHaye Blues." The |
| forever-to-be-unreleased Stuffed Animals "On Stuff" |
| LP, which was a mad and unwieldy project |
| accomplished with Why?, circus, sole, and dose. The |
| Object Beings EP and 7" with dose and why?. |
| "pedestrian for vessel" from the gigasingle. |
| "Generation of Dead Beats" from "Ropeladder 12." |
| "Primes" from whats_it_called. The Nirvana covers |
| project with Nick Starr, twice erased. Uhm, "the |
| Biter Song," and so on. |
