:: You have just got to love a band who inadvertently produces ::
:: an album so rough around the edges that it brings you back ::
:: to a time before heavy metal became a bloated mess of ::
:: brands and Iron Maiden T-shirts. ::

:: Soul Collector by Pestkult is a rough as hell release that ::
:: should appeal to those ageing metal heads who still wear ::
:: that extra tight Venom T-Shirt from the early Æ80s. This is ::
:: a very tasteless raw release that has a lot of potential to ::
:: be something better. Songs like Pestkult, Finsternis In ::
:: Ewigkeit and Okkultes Schlachkommando are as equally brutal ::
:: as they are catchy. The riffs are plentiful and varied as ::
:: the band mixes it up between old school heavy metal and ::
:: some fairly gloomy black metal. The vocal snarling of ::
:: Golzarath is a mix between a harsh coarse snarling and a ::
:: very high pitch more theatrical wail. It is a queer mix to ::
:: use in this kind of music but it gives the music a little ::
:: personality and is not that much stranger then Dani Filth ::
:: for example. ::
:: ::
:: The let down for Soul Collector is without a doubt the ::
:: drummer Seuche. This individuals playing is a little bit ::
:: too sloppy for this kind of music. The drum fills are all ::
:: over the place and on some songs the poor drumming is a ::
:: huge distraction. It is a shame really because the drums on ::
:: some of the songs are perfectly fine. The production can ::
:: also be a bit of a downer, the band sound like theyÆre ::
:: recording in a shed. Though for all I know, they probably ::
:: were. ::
:: ::
:: PestkultÆs Soul Collector is a fun album without a doubt. I ::
:: enjoyed the wide range of riffs and the eccentric vocals. ::
:: The band are only let down from a very poor choice of ::
:: drummer. I would love to hear Soul Collector with a better ::
:: drummer and some better production. ::
