kubulus is the 2nd brand-new album from the trip-sound sextet
kubus coming from luzern. however it is not enough to describe
their music as trip-sound: itÆs a unique fusion of jazz and
electronic, rock and lounge, drum-grooves and mesmerizing
melodies. the music is exciting as a good mystery movie. parts
full of action followed by a calm scene to take breath.
surprising changes, but at the horizon you suspect the next rush
which will make you move again... kubulus has been recorded in 3
live-sessions at the jazzkantine luzern in december 2003 where
kubus amazed the audience with their new titles. the musicians
adi pflugshaupt (saxes), rafi woll (drums), peter estermann
(keys), masi stalder (bass), marc scheidegger (g) and fabian st
ⁿbi (electr.) donÆt hide themselves in a studio! together with
the californian musician and producer mat callahan (the looters)
at the mixing desk the recording became as energetic as the live
sound. the new cd is the greatest result of experience and
progression since kubus was formed in 1997. the band is
experienced - and has its own sound. kubus distills their music
from elements originating from jazz and electronic music. there
is some kind of lightness but their sound is not missing
originality and power. this energy is coming from a continuous
process influenced by possibilities and the joy of making music.
their permanent activity was not affected by the periods when
single band-members went abroad. when they returned new
influences came into the concept, which is continuously
developing. so it's a combination of persistence and experiments
reflected by the music. and the intimate fusion of acoustical
and electronic instruments is resulting in a highly up-to-date
