  "Manglehorn is a 2014 American drama film directed by David Gordon Green and
  starring Al Pacino, Holly Hunter and Harmony Korine. A.J. Manglehorn is a
  reclusive Texas key-maker who spends his days caring for his cat, finding
  comfort in his work and lamenting a long lost love. Enter kind-hearted bank
  teller Dawn whose interest in the eccentric Manglehorn may just be able to
  draw him out of his shell. The score is composed by Explosions In The Sky &
  David Wingo.

  Explosions In The Sky became an overnight sensation when the release of the
  2004 score to Peter BergÆs American football drama ôFriday Night Lightsö was
  released, a movie that was succeeded by an excellent TV series. That was a
  great movie and it also had a great score. TheyÆve been sort of out of the
  game for a while though until ôPrince Avalancheö in 2013 which they
  co-composed with David Wingo. That wasnÆt very good at all. They did a better
  job on Lone Survivor, but I hope they bring it back a bit to when they were
  truly great. The score starts with æManglehorn Lock And KeyÆ a nice ambient
  opener. Long reverberating pianos and experimental effect while a fast-paced
  electronic stick percussion track is underneath it. At 2:23 thereÆs a ver nice
  little power motif, energetic and inspirational. IÆm enjoying this. æLightning
  And A BottleÆ is a bit more experimental. ThereÆs an off-beat bass rhythm
  section, but in the second half there is a more lyrical side to it. Still a
  bit strange though. æDid I Scare YouÆ is more in tune with the opening cue, a
  little ambience, but this time with a great little piano theme starting 20
  seconds in and at 39 seconds it gains more power. ItÆs very beautiful.
  æBaseball MiraclesÆ is back in experimental land with some sound effects over
  a very mundane and simple motif. Not my kind of thing. æA Strange WorldÆ is
  more of the same but without the sound effects.

  I was afraid that this could turn into a quirky off-beat experimental score,
  but so far thereÆs only really been two cues that match that description,
  æBaseball MiraclesÆ and æA Strange WorldÆ. Cues like æHello!Æ makes it all
  worth it with a calm playfulness. Lovely slow ostinatos and a a fast swirling
  electronic synth on top. In the end this isnÆt a bad score. ItÆs certainly
  better than their 2013 effort Prince Avalanche. I had hoped it would be a lot
  better, but I enjoyed most of it and truly believe the thirdÆs time the
  charm."
