▓████▓▌ integral part of French musical life for much ▓▌
▓████▓▌ longer than "Je tÆaime ... moi non plus". Unlike in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Germany, in France it is very much the done thing ▓▌
▓████▓▌ to invite guest artists to sing with you, in fact ▓▌
▓████▓▌ it is even considered to be a matter of artistic ▓▌
▓████▓▌ decency. Recently France has seen a true revival of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the duet. Jane Birkin recorded a complete album of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ duets with different guest-singers. So did Benjamin ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Biolay, who initiated the project "Home" in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ collaboration with his wife Chiara Mastroianni. On ▓▌
▓████▓▌ regular albums too guest singers and duet partners ▓▌
▓████▓▌ are present as a matter of course û almost as ▓▌
▓████▓▌ frequently as in HipHop. A new release without the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ words "en duo avec" is a rarity these days. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ The special quality of these collaborations has ▓▌
▓████▓▌ struck us time and time and again: there's JΘr⌠me ▓▌
▓████▓▌ MiniΦre's stunning duet with the young ▓▌
▓████▓▌ franco-canadian actress Karine Vanasse, there's our ▓▌
▓████▓▌ brilliant opener "Raisonnable" by Pierre Bondu and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Cornu-singer Julie B. Bonnie, not forgetting of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ course Dominique A's classic "Le Twenty-Two Bar", ▓▌
▓████▓▌ which was recorded with a little help from his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ex-girlfriend Franτoiz Breut and secured the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ breakthrough for these pioneers of the Nouvelle ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Chanson. The fascination with the chanson for two ▓▌
▓████▓▌ voices is currently at a peak. Frequently the true ▓▌
▓████▓▌ gems of French releases are duets. It would appear ▓▌
▓████▓▌ that such collaberation helps bring out the very ▓▌
▓████▓▌ best of the artistic qualities of all involved. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Moreover singing "en duo" has turned out to be a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ major tool for bringing the diverse actors of the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Nouvelle Scene together. One great example is ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Vincent Delerm's "moderated duet" "Veruca Salt & ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Frank Black". Here Delerm restricts himself to a ▓▌
▓████▓▌ few off-commentaries and leaves the field to his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ two guests Dominique A and Keren Ann. Delerm's song ▓▌
▓████▓▌ proves to what extent the contemporary chanson ▓▌
▓████▓▌ relies on the overwhelming musical qualities of its ▓▌
▓████▓▌ stars. Albin de la Simone took this type of musical ▓▌
▓████▓▌ networking one step further by inviting Canadian ▓▌
▓████▓▌ singer-songwriter Feist who had to sing her part of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "Elle aime" from a phonetic transcription. So don't ▓▌
▓████▓▌ get confused: she really is the same singer who is ▓▌
▓████▓▌ currently creating quite a stir with her ▓▌
▓████▓▌ English-language debut album and no she didn't ▓▌
▓████▓▌ understand a word of what she was singing. Katerine ▓▌
▓████▓▌ created the same confusion with his duet ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "Parlez-vous anglais, Mr. Katerine?" featuring ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Jersey singer Erin Moran aka A Girl Called Eddie. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ Cherhal. The two of them decided to cover ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "Something Stupid" and came up with a version ▓▌
▓████▓▌ complete with wonderful guitar-playing, harmonious ▓▌
▓████▓▌ singing and loads of humour. Another world premier ▓▌
▓████▓▌ on LE POP EN DUO: Toma's version of Niagara's 1986 ▓▌
▓████▓▌ summer hit "LÆamour α la plage" which manages to be ▓▌
▓████▓▌ somehow more relaxed yet also more tricky then the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ original, thanks in no small part to guest singer ▓▌

▓████▓▌ "Le Pop" and "Le Pop 2" have already demonstrated ▓▌
▓████▓▌ what a thorough dusting the classic chanson has ▓▌
▓████▓▌ received courtesy of the Nouvelle ScΦne. By way of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ modern production techniques and fresh arrangements ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the protagonist of the scene has managed to breathe ▓▌
▓████▓▌ new life into the chanson all the while paying due ▓▌
▓████▓▌ respect to the traditional song writing techniques ▓▌
▓████▓▌ that together with the French lyrics make up the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "French character" of this music. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ LE POP EN DUO continues what the first two LE POP ▓▌
▓████▓▌ compilations began. The album documents the state ▓▌
▓████▓▌ of affairs in French pop, this time with a special ▓▌
▓████▓▌ focus on the duet, and at the same time introduces ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the most interesting new names of the Nouvelle ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ScΦne: Alexis HK, Jeanne Cherhal, Stefie Shock and ▓▌
