│ Mat Young is a fresh mode kid from Maine who I'm informed was │
│ born atop a mountain, cool. A former remixer of this writer's │
│ favourite jazz drummer, Billy Martin aka Illy B this double │
│ header is the most funky and fu*cked up banger of the year. │
│ 'Illy Uno' drops into the sick funk groove at 80 mph, an │
│ unstoppable re-twisting of funky drummer, tweaked up with a │
│ scratched guitar wrangle, found sounds, kung fu samples, mad │
│ dialogue, scratching and Aphex Twin inspired time stretching - │
│ baadass fonk, 'it's a declaration of war'. 'Look At Me' delivers │
│ soundtrack dialogue over a sweet electric piano loop ala Mike │
│ Post 'Hill Street Blues'. Further ingredients are a familiar │
│ drum loop (just mashed up enough) a seriously righteous souljazz │
│ vocal loop, much cutting and pasting, a dope bass thwaq and a │
│ dirty organ growl ride. A perfect melancholic soulbeat jam - │
│ amazing. One of the most essential 7"s of 2004. │
      │ │
