│║ ║ │
│║ Description : ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ 9 years after, somebody had the brilliant idea ║ │
│║ to release this concert, fortunately. Recorded ║ │
│║ in that dramatic farewell tour, back in August ║ │
│║ 1983 at the Reading festival, these 14 tracks ║ │
│║ are probably the finest legacy on stage that the ║ │
│║ final Lizzy line-up (Lynott-Gorham-Sykes- ║ │
│║ Wharton-Downey) left for us. ItÆs far superior ║ │
│║ to the disappointing ôLife: Lifeö and the ║ │
│║ performances at Regal Theatre Hitchin and the ║ │
│║ Sight & Sound In Concert from that same year ║ │
│║ (which were released on DVD later, ôThunder And ║ │
│║ Lightning Tourö and ôThunder And Lightning: ║ │
│║ Liveö). The set is quite similar to those other ║ │
│║ gigs I mentioned, but this one features the band ║ │
│║ at their best, as never before in state of ║ │
│║ grace. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ From the opening track to the last, you can ║ │
│║ enjoy and feel the magic of these guys ║ │
│║ constantly, number by number. The energy and ║ │
│║ stunning skills of Thin Lizzy became greater, ║ │
│║ more powerful and convincing; these cuts are ║ │
│║ superior to anything they ever did in the ║ │
│║ studio. Classics like ôEmeraldö, ôJailbreakö or ║ │
│║ ôThe Boys Are Back In Townö never sounded so ║ │
│║ immense, cathartic and raw. The contribution of ║ │
│║ each musician is admirable, but specially the ║ │
│║ immaculate guitar work of one of the greatest ║ │
│║ and most underrated combos of the history of ║ │
│║ rock is totally inspired, creative and ║ │
│║ unpredictable. The classic Lizzy riffs and sweet ║ │
│║ harmonies reach another level performed by ║ │
│║ Sykes, whoÆs insatiable and brilliant on each ║ │
│║ tune. Particularly his pickinÆ parts are ║ │
│║ something out of this world and will blow you ║ │
│║ away on ôThunder And Lightningö, ôThe Sun Goes ║ │
│║ Downö or ôStill In Love With Youö. But the whole ║ │
│║ pack indeed built an incredibly solid wall of ║ │
│║ sound, as you can listen on the absolutely ║ │
│║ hardest rock this group ever did on ôAre You ║ │
│║ Ready?ö, for instance. The rhythmic section is ║ │
│║ strong, consistent and versatile, good enough to ║ │
│║ support properly both Gorham and Sykes lines, ║ │
│║ who made me forget about Brian Robertson and ║ │
│║ Gary Moore instantly with their virtuosism and ║ │
│║ passion on ôWaiting For An Alibiö or ôSuicideö. ║ │
│║ The new tracks from the last album become ║ │
│║ masterpieces on stage, greater than the studio ║ │
│║ originals, featuring some alternative solos you ║ │
│║ wonÆt find in the studio LP. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ As usual, thereÆs no surprises in the ║ │
│║ arrangements or structures of the compositions. ║ │
│║ Lynott and co. once again follow exactly the ║ │
│║ same patterns as on the studio, including most ║ │
│║ of the guitar solos too. What makes this CD ║ │
│║ splendid is the renewed energy and power, which ║ │
│║ made these songs became unforgettable and ║ │
│║ memorable. The amazing quality and proper sound ║ │
│║ concert sound engineering is definitely ║ │
│║ essential to make this live record reach this ║ │
│║ perfection and brilliance. This time they were ║ │
│║ lucky and each instrument sounds as it should, ║ │
│║ although IÆm not really sure if this stuff has ║ │
│║ been remixed, or if any overdubs and studio ║ │
│║ traps were added. However, you can notice some ║ │
│║ mistakes and goofs in the performance so letÆs ║ │
│║ be positive and hope this recording was ║ │
│║ unadulterated and untouched. ThereÆs some weak ║ │
│║ spots, like ôA Night In The Life Of A Blues ║ │
│║ Singerö, which is a superb melancholy song ║ │
│║ plenty of cool pickinÆ parts, but it breaks the ║ │
│║ continuity of the set (it was played right after ║ │
│║ ôAre You Ready?ö and ôBaby, Please DonÆt Goö!). ║ │
│║ I also wonder if it was really necessary to have ║ │
│║ Wharton on keyboards, heÆs only making silly ║ │
│║ noises with his synthesizer, not creating any ║ │
│║ climax or performing anything to support the ║ │
│║ guitars. And the set-list is missing a lot of ║ │
│║ huge classics like ôBlack Roseö, ôCold Sweatö or ║ │
│║ ôDonÆt Believe A Wordö, that I wish they played. ║ │
│║ The couple of Snowy White albums and their ║ │
│║ magnificent record ôBad Reputationö (with the ║ │
│║ exception of that short excerpt of ôDancing In ║ │
│║ The Moonlightö on Rosalie) are completely ║ │
│║ ignored, sadly. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ An excellent live album, definitely the most ║ │
│║ solid since ôLive & Dangerousö, or probably even ║ │
│║ greater than that one. If you donÆt believe me, ║ │
│║ then I recommend you to check out these ║ │
│║ outstanding 14 cuts, which were the best ║ │
│║ farewell possible after a long tough journey of ║ │
│║ 13 years of blood, sweat and tears, glory and ║ │
│║ fame, for this legendary classic rock band. I ║ │
│║ still wonder if it was the right decision from ║ │
│║ the group to break-up in such a brilliant moment ║ │
│║ in their career. We canÆt change history, but we ║ │
│║ can always enjoy the immortal legacy they left. ║ │
