SUB.TERRA continues the Foundry's interest in experimental
collaborations. This project's catalyst was the sub.terra
track, a composition created entirely with trumpet by
Illinois resident John Koch-Northrup who works under the
name Interstitial. This epic composition explores the wide
territories of jazz inflected experimental music, and uses
both highly processed and acoustic trumpet sounds.
Components of this track were given to four
musician/composers (Vir Unis, vidnaObmana, Saul Stokes and
M. Bentley/eM) who created new pieces with these elements,
in the process imbuing the original material with their
own unique stylistic signatures. The result is a
collection of tracks brought together by a common audio
heritage, and diversified by the strong musical
sensibilities of the contributors.
