│║ Description : ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ A funny object this is. Whitesnake was a very ║ │
│║ popular hard rock band from the late 70s and ║ │
│║ 80s, and what we have here is a Whitesnake ║ │
│║ repertory band called The Snakes featuring the ║ │
│║ two guitarists that were in a classic early ║ │
│║ lineup of Whitesnake and a David Coverdale clone ║ │
│║ from Sweden as a lead singer. The album is ║ │
│║ nothing but Whitesnake classics performed by ║ │
│║ this half-authentic band. Such is the way of the ║ │
│║ rock 'n roll industry, a pretty amusing case. ║ │
│║ Doubtless there were thousands of happy ║ │
│║ screaming Whitesnake fans who attended these ║ │
│║ concerts to celebrate the songs they love. I ║ │
│║ have a feeling the sonic difference between ║ │
│║ Whitesnake and The Snakes is insignificant. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The band also made a 1998 studio album of ║ │
│║ original material, but I can only assume it also ║ │
│║ sounds like "classic" Whitesnake, which I must ║ │
│║ confess ignorance of. I'm a little bit curious ║ │
│║ about Whitesnake, but I've never checked them ║ │
│║ out, except maybe one album, but I'm not sure. ║ │
│║ They're highly rated by many who rank Coverdale ║ │
│║ as one of the greats of the light metal genre. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ This is a kind of slick hard rock rooted in ║ │
│║ blues rock, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and ║ │
│║ various other 70s acts. The singing is throaty ║ │
│║ and powerful. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Listening to the originals would already be a ║ │
│║ sketchy endeavor for me, so I'm not sure if this ║ │
│║ is worth paying any more attention to, but I'm ║ │
│║ currently hearing "Slow An' Easy", a huge hit I ║ │
│║ well remember from my youth, and it's a damn ║ │
│║ good song, so I might as well let it run a bit ║ │
│║ more. Man, this song KILLS! Yeah! It's a real ║ │
│║ blatant Zeppelin imitation, and I guess good ║ │
│║ imitations of great things will be somewhere in ║ │
│║ between good and great, which this is. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Okay, now I'm starting to hit the ol' skip ║ │
│║ forward button... By the way, I really don't ║ │
│║ like blues rock, especially in its slick forms, ║ │
│║ so this is a real stretch for me... but it's ║ │
│║ really not that bad... I prefer the ballads by ║ │
│║ these kinds of bands over the strut rockers, and ║ │
│║ I know there's gotta be a doozy coming up ║ │
│║ anytime now... Here it is, "Ain't No Love In The ║ │
│║ Heart of the City"... Ah, sometimes I yearn for ║ │
│║ the simple life... ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ I bet this "live" album is massively overdubbed ║ │
│║ and studio-adjusted... ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Darn, this ballad is not a doozy at all; it's ║ │
│║ terrible! ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Ah, skipping ahead to the final track... bingo! ║ │
│║ "Here I Go Again" is the other unforgettable ║ │
│║ mega-hit from Whitesnake I must've heard many ║ │
│║ times on the radio when I was a kid. Damn, it's ║ │
│║ also a great song. Now this is a great midtempo ║ │
│║ light metal ballad if I ever heard one! Ah, so ║ │
│║ much passion. He went for those high registers. ║ │
│║ Fake ending, rave-up coda, "thank you very much, ║ │
│║ good night", the fans go wild and talk for days ║ │
│║ about how close Jorn "Johnny" Lande was to "the ║ │
│║ real thing"... ║ │
