These are superb performances of music
from the late 17th C flourishing of
violin virtuoso composition in Austria,
of which Heinrich Biber is the most
famous exponent, taken from a
manuscript in the Minoritenkonvent of
Vienna.. Stephanie Paulet produces a
beautiful tone from her violin and
plays with what seems to me an ideal
technique for these works. The
accompaniment is from a restored
positive organ from the period, which
enhances the violin transports
perfectly. This is wonderful music, and
anyone who knows and loves the violin
sonatas of Biber will get great
pleasure from it.
