  After providing one of 2014Æs standout albums 'Wilderness of MirrorsÆ -
  without question one of the finest ambient albums weÆve heard in a while,
  Lawrence English returns to penetrate that most desolate zone of the psyche
  with an incredible suite of treated and layered field recordings made in
  Patagonia and Antarctica in 2010. With only the barest signs of life coming
  from a distant bird call detected towards the end of the B-side, we're left
  stranded in the centre of a howling polar gale, shivering and operating on
  heightened instinct. Well, to be fair I'm in a warm office in Manchester
  right now, but if I shut my eyes and turn the fan up it's a slight
  approximation. Brrr. We all know what it feels and sounds like to be
  outside or even indoors during a heavy storm, but it can take another
  person's perspective to make you really pay attention to its sonic
  subtleties, a skill which esteemed field recordist English has in
  abundance. Thanks to his incredibly keen ear for timbral and textural
  detail, coupled with a technical dexterity and patient soul, both of these
  pieces offer an intense yet eerily detached experience, at once dazzling,
  frightening and visceral, with a life-affirming sense of reverence and
  wonder at the power of nature and humankind's willingness to endure extreme
  situations. To put it simply, if you loved 'Wilderness of Mirrors', you'll
  adore this record, too. Highly Recommended.
