Release Notes:

From the Central Valley region of California -
stomping grounds of close friends Grandaddy - come
the eerie and inviting pop stylings of Built Like
Alaska. With majestic musical movements shrouded in
haunting sonic embellishment, this indie quartet mix
melancholic pop with considerable atmosphere to
great effect. The band's own description of their
name aptly describes their overall sound: "Alaska, a
huge, bold state(ment) - mystical and mythic - with
a climate and environment that is as harsh as it is
beautiful, mean as it is fragile and unforgiving as
it is unapologetic." Autumnland expresses much of
the desolation of their native terrain as well as
that of their namesake. Lead vocalist and guitarist
Neil Jackson maintains a balance between delicate
breathless and muted desperation in tunes that range
from intimate piano ballads to mid-tempo jangle rock
- all of which are strikingly tuneful as well as
moving.
