              The obscure and notoriously hard to
              find music of French library music
              composer Jean Pierre Decref has long
              been highly desirable to hardcore
              crate-diggers. Part of the allure is
              its' difficult to find nature, of
              course, but Decref's quality threshold
              was always higher than many of his
              contemporaries. Those in doubt should
              check Space Oddities: 1975-79, the
              first official compilation of his work.
              Undeniably quirky, left-of-centre and
              drenched in the soft focus glow now
              associated with 1970s nostalgia, the
              music centres around vintage modular
              synthesizers, thrillingly cheap drum
              machines, and the kind of soft focus,
              progressive-influenced space rock that
              was so popular at the time. Happily,
              it's more killer than filler, and
              should equally excite both synth-
              fetishists and dusty-fingers sample-
              diggers.
