Having announced their return in autumn of 2015, London shoegaze act Lush
have revealed their first new music since 1996, ahead of a return to the live
arena.
'Out of Control' is the opening track from a new EP 'Blind Spot', which will
be released, via 4AD, ahead of three UK live shows - also a first since 1996
- due to take place in April and May.
Miki Berenyi talked about the recording of the EP in a press release
accompanying the track, saying:
"It certainly took some time to set up, but once we were in the studio,
everything came together incredibly quickly. It was great fun! ItÆs been a
long time since IÆve written Lush lyrics, and I realised early on with this
EP that what I wrote about then is not what I feel comfortable writing about
now. My perspective, and what is close to my heart, has changed, and I think
thatÆs conveyed in the songs."
At the time that the new EP was confirmed, the band talked about their
feelings on such a long awaited return.
ôIÆm a bit anxious,ö Emma Anderson is quoted as saying, ôwondering if people
will think the new record will be as good as the old.ö However, bass player
Phil King is confident: ôI know IÆm biased, but I work for a music magazine,
and I heard music all day and so much sounds non-descript or derivative. But
Emma just has this way of writing unusual chord changes that manage to weave
lovely melodies over the top, and it immediately sounds like Lush.ö
Lush formed in London in 1987, releasing their acclaimed debut 'Spooky' in
1992. Their last live show took place in Tokyo during September 1996.
Members Emma Anderson, Miki Berenyi and Phil King will reunite, with
Elastica's Justin Welch playing drums in the place of Chris Acland, who died
in 1996.
