mondomo
mondomo is a dj and producer from madrid, with an almost
encylopedic knowledge of contemporary music. his influences are
rooted in exotica, electro, bossa nova, and pop. his own
productions somehow manage to reflect all of these influences.
his first tunes appear on "the after school special 1", "theme
from mondomo" and "cosmoturismo". both songs are smokey
adventures, mixing 60┤s samples with today┤s technology and sound
effects.
soon after a previously unreleased track "penso ascoltando"
appeared on "break & bossa 5" on schema records followed by his
most recent track, the elegant "how many times?" on "the after
school special 2"
watch tv
rubΘn "watch tv" garcφa is one of spain┤s most accomplished
downtempo producers and djs. this multitalented madrile±o
recorded, produced and programmed two cds on hitop called "the
after school special", which features solo material as well as
collaborations with new spanish artists such as mondomo, nava, and
el gran lapofsky.
his capacity to produce different styles of music is clear to see
not only in his own productions but in his remixes for
international artists like beady belle (norway), axel krygier
(argentina), and chazam (france). his production credits include
tv people "the turntable thief" (udo), v/a "evil tunes vol.1"
(evil tunes), and both chop suey records (cosmos).
his music has also graced the big screen, in a handful of spanish
films, noteably "my life without me" by isabel coixet. currently
he is djing (his sets are full of downtempo funk) and busting new
beats in his studio.
el gran lapofsky
born and raised in greenwich village, nyc, he now lives in madrid,
running hitop.
lapofsky began djing several years ago, playing whatever, as long
as it had enough bass. after arriving in spain in 1996 it was not
long before he hooked up with the djs at ama records, the first
specialized shop in black music in madrid. a job at the shop lead
to dj gigs and music became more than just a hobby.
he joined forces with watch tv to cut a track, and the result was
"recess" on "the after school special 1" (also featured on future
sounds of jazz vol. 7 on compost records). the team also dropped
"mumbo jumbo" for "the after school special 2". an album is in the
works.
