██▌▄▀█ Having undoubtedly spent a few nights down at Sonar ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ over the years, Barcelona based Joan Male (Monoceros) ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ delivers his debut album 'When I Was A Child I Wanted ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ To Be An Astronaut' on Expanding Records. Having been ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ making electronic music since the mid-90's, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Monoceros' sound is heavily indebted to the likes of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ LFO and Skam, trading as he does in crisp diamond-cut ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ electronica. Opening with 'Kaleidoscope Colors' ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Monoceros pours digital milk onto electronic Rice ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Crispies and in doing so produces a sound close to ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Bola or Christ. 'Cosmos (Carl Sagan)' displays his ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ adeptness for collecting splintered beat patterns and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ combining them with chiming, machine melodies which ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ convey a palpable warmth whilst 'Silicon Life' ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ features clicks and cuts that could be watermark ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ traced back to Black Dog productions. As more ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ esoteric electronic headphone music enters its ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ adulthood there is no escaping that much of what is ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ on offer here has been done many times before. Yet, ░██▌▄▀
    ██▌▄▀█ this isn't to say that 'When I Was a Child...' ░██▌▄▀
    ██▌▄▀█ doesn't deliver a vet-sized dose of uncut electronica ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ and where Monoceros succeeds is taking a clutch of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ used ideas and sounds but reinvigorating them enough ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ to keep you coming back for more. And I assure you ░██▌▄▀
