Blending elements of acoustic blues, vintage soul, and conscious hip-hop into a
mixture that's expressive yet deeply personal, Son Little is the alias of Aaron
Livingston, a singer, instrumentalist, and songwriter who divides his time
between his own music and collaborating with others. Aaron Livingston was born
in Los Angeles, California, where his mother was an educator and his father was
a man of the cloth. Livingston was still a child when his family moved to
Queens, New York, and Livingston became fascinated with the flavors of urban
life. After graduating from high school, Livingston studied at Columbia
University, but dropped out and worked day jobs for a while before relocating to
Philadelphia and enrolling at Temple University. While in Philadelphia,
Livingston struck up a friendship with members of the Roots, and he guested on
their 2011 album Undun; that same year, Livingston collaborated with alternative
hip-hop artist Rjd2 in a project they called Icebird, releasing an album called
The Abandoned Lullaby. Livingston soon began recording and releasing digital
albums, beginning with Aaron Livingston's Greatest Hits, Vol. -1, but in 2013 he
began making music under the name Son Little. In 2014 Son Little signed with
Anti Records, and in November of that year he dropped a six-song EP entitled
Things I Forgot. In April 2015 Son Little produced an EP for legendary gospel
and soul singer Mavis Staples, Your Good Fortune, and October 2015 saw the
release of his first solo album, simply titled Son Little.

Jamison Ross

Florida-born drummer/vocalist Jamison Ross is a fluid percussionist and
gospel-influenced singer, best known as the 2012 winner of the 25th annual
Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Raised in Jacksonville, Florida,
Ross grew up singing in his grandfather's church and began playing drums at age
three. By the age of 15, he was already leading the church band as Minister of
Music. Encouraged by his mother to pursue music formally, Ross took drum lessons
throughout elementary school and attended high school at the prestigious Douglas
Anderson School of the Arts. While there, Ross played in the jazz band and won
top honors at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington High School Jazz
Band Competition -- an experience captured in the 2007 documentary film Chops.
After high school, Ross earned his B.A. in jazz studies from Florida State
University. He then relocated to New Orleans, where he furthered his education,
earning his Master's degree from the University of New Orleans. Choosing to stay
there, Ross found work with a bevy of name artists, including vocalist Carmen
Lundy, pianist Ramsey Lewis, gospel singer Byron Cage, and others. In 2012, he
won the 25th annual Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, and garnered
a recording contract with Concord Records. In 2015, Ross released his debut solo
album for Concord, the R&B- and gospel-infused Jamison.

The James Hunter Six

The James Hunter Six are a soul-blues band from Essex, England, who've been
touring and recording together for more than a decade. Their immediate, gritty
sound provides the backing for their songwriter/guitar slinger namesake, whose
weathered yet buttery smooth voice has made the group a critical favorite and a
touring sensation. Given their intensity and virtuosity, no less than Allen
Toussaint, Sharon Jones, and Van Morrison have been counted as fans and shared
stages with them.
The rest of the lineup is made up of drummer Jonathan Lee,
keyboardist/percussionist Andrew Kingslow, baritone saxophonist Lee Badau, tenor
saxophonist Damian Hand, and bassist Jason Wilson. Though most of this unit has
been together for nearly two decades and played stages all over the globe,
they've been billed as the James Hunter Six on recordings since 2013's Gabriel
Roth-produced Minute by Minute -- Hunter extended the name to reflect the band's
concert billing. The band signed on to the producer's Daptone label in 2013 and
recorded 2016's Hold On! direct to eight-track tape at Penrose Recorders in
Riverside, California.

Tedeschi Trucks Band

The Tedeschi Trucks Band -- led by the husband-and-wife duo of guitarist and
vocalist Susan Tedeschi and slide guitarist Derek Trucks -- began as a summer
touring unit known as the Soul Stew Revival. It was both a practical
consideration for the pair to spend time together with their young family and a
musical endeavor. Soul Stew Revival featured members of their own bands and
numerous guest musicians, and the loose-knit cooperative band performed
roof-raising shows full of soul, blues, funk, and gospel standards, as well as
original material. After one of these tours, the pair decided to create a home
studio to be better able to finance their own recordings. Tedeschi and Trucks
performed a cover of "Space Captain" on Herbie Hancock's Imagine Project, and
solidified an 11-piece band from their own units, as well as horn players and
percussionists. Renamed the Tedeschi Trucks Band, they signed to Sony's
Masterworks imprint, recorded over 30 songs, and eventually pared the selection
down to 11 tracks for their debut album, Revelator, which was released in June
2011 and nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. It was followed in
the spring of 2012 by Live: Everybody's Talkin', a sprawling double-disc set
which featured material from Revelator, alongside some carefully-chosen cover
versions. August 2013 brought a second studio album, Made Up Mind, which
featured co-writing credits from the Jayhawks' Gary Louris and Soulive's Eric
Krasno.
The band toured virtually nonstop. They composed new material on the fly and
developed a sprawling set of covers from the annals of blues, rock, soul, jazz
and country music as well as explored African and Indian music onstage. After a
final Allman Brothers Band tour in 2015, Trucks was abe to focus all of his
energies on his family band that had expanded over the year to include a dozen
members. Tedeschi Trucks Band entered their Swamp Raga Studio at home in
Jacksonville, Florida. With Trucks producing they recorded 10 new songs--all
written or co-written by the band, a first. Let Me Get By was released by
Fantasy in January,

HAZMAT MODINE plays the kind of Blues one might have found in a barrelhouse in
New Orleans had the city been inhabited by gypsies who performed with Otis
Redding and the city had been built on the Black Sea. The band is driven by
harmonicas, tuba, drums, guitars, Banjo and a full horn section. Guests play
such exotic instruments as the Romanian cimbalom, the banjitar, and the
Claviola. Front man Wade Schuman has the appropriately throaty voice of someone
who has both hopped freight trains and collaborated with the Throat Singers of
Tuva. For the past eight years, the band has been touring in over 40 countries
worldwide. They have collaborated/performed with a vast range of artists
including Bombino, Kronos Quartet, Cat Empire, the Gangbe Brass band from Benin,
and Natalie Merchant. The title track from their first CD BAHAMUT was recently
used in the 3D film Pina by Wim Wenders, and currently in a performance by Pina
Bausch and the Stuttgart Ballet. Their second CD Cicada was awarded the Charles
Cross award in France for best blues album of the Year, and topped number one on
the World Music Charts in Europe. There new CD Extra-Deluxe-Supreme is out on
Jaro records in Europe and due out this spring in the U.S.

Jackie Payne (born September 26, 1945) is an American blues singer. He was
nominated in both 2007 and 2008 for the Blues Music Award for Best Male Soul
Blues Artist; an album he recorded with Johnny Otis was nominated for a Grammy
Award in 1993. He is the nephew of the blues harmonica player Neal Pattman.

Texas guitarist Gary Clark, Jr. has been compared to guitar icons like Jimi
Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and his playing is a powerful and inspired mix
of blues roots with contemporary soul and hip-hop, and when he's rolling at his
best, he sounds like nothing so much as a natural hybrid of both the past and
the future of the blues. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Clark first picked up
a guitar at the age of 12 and spent his teens playing whatever gig he could get
in the Austin area, eventually meeting Clifford Antone, promoter and owner of
Antone's, the city's premier blues club, who began featuring Clark at his venue.
An amazing live performer, Clark soon became one of the brightest players on
Austin's blues and rock scene. He released an independent album, 2005's Tribute,
followed by a pair of self-produced albums in 2008 for Hotwire Unlimited, 110
and Worry No More. An EP, Gary Clark Jr., also appeared from Hotwire in 2010.
But Clark was far from just a one-trick pony guitar gunslinger. He could also
sing, write, and arrange. He wrote the original score for the film Full Count
and also appeared as an actor in John Sayles' 2007 film Honeydripper. In 2010,
Clark was selected by Eric Clapton to perform at the Crossroads Guitar Festival,
and a DVD of the show featuring Clark led to a recording deal with Warner Bros.
Clark was soon in the studio working on his major-label debut. An EP called
Bright Lights was released in 2011 in advance of the new album, Blak and Blu,
which appeared in the fall of 2012. His next release was the impressive two-disc
Live, recorded during an 18-month-long tour behind Blak and Blu, and one that
perhaps better represented Clark's wild, impassioned, and often elegantly
graceful live sets. After more touring, including dates opening for the Rolling
Stones and the Foo Fighters, Clark released his second major-label studio set,
2015's The Story of Sonny Boy Slim.

After a handful of releases under the name Breezy Lovejoy, singer, rapper, and
producer Anderson Paak broke through with six songs on Dr. Dre's 2015 album,
Compton. Born and raised in Oxnard, California, Paak's first experience as a
musician came as a teenage drummer in the church band. As an adult, he helped
manage a marijuana farm in Santa Barbara while working on a debut album, but
when he lost his pot job unexpectedly, the recording costs had put him in deep
debt. Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra hired him as an assistant, and with access to the
Sa-Ra studio, Paak finished his debut album. O.B.E., Vol. 1 landed in 2012 as a
Breezy Lovejoy album, but he didn't get to promote the release much as he soon
hit the road as drummer for American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart. His 2013
all-covers EP Cover Art arrived as the first Anderson Paak release, then a year
later he issued Venice, an album featuring production from DJ Nobody,
Tokimonsta, and others. In 2015 he joined Dr. Dre in the studio and landed on
six songs on the legendary producer's third album, Compton. His second proper
album, Malibu, was issued in early 2016 and featured collaborations with 9th
Wonder, Rapsody, and Kaytranada.

Long a critics' darling, singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt did not begin to win the
comparable commercial success due her until the release of the aptly titled 1989
blockbuster Nick of Time; her tenth album, it rocketed her into the mainstream
consciousness nearly two decades after she first committed her unique blend of
blues, rock, and R&B to vinyl. Born in Burbank, California, on November 8, 1949,
she was the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, best known for his starring
performances in such smashes as Carousel and The Pajama Game. After picking up
the guitar at the age of 12, Raitt felt an immediate affinity for the blues, and
although she went off to attend Radcliffe in 1967, within two years she had
dropped out to begin playing the Boston folk and blues club circuit. Signing
with noted blues manager Dick Waterman, she was soon performing alongside the
likes of idols including Howlin' Wolf, Sippie Wallace, and Mississippi Fred
McDowell, and in time earned such a strong reputation that she was signed to
Warner Bros.
Debuting in 1971 with an eponymously titled effort, Raitt immediately emerged as
a critical favorite, applauded not only for her soulful vocals and thoughtful
song selection but also for her guitar prowess, turning heads as one of the few
women to play bottleneck. Her 1972 follow-up, Give It Up, made better use of her
eclectic tastes, featuring material by contemporaries like Jackson Browne and
Eric Kaz, in addition to a number of R&B chestnuts and even three Raitt
originals. 1973's Takin' My Time was much acclaimed, and throughout the middle
of the decade she released an LP annually, returning with Streetlights in 1974
and Home Plate a year later. With 1977's Sweet Forgiveness, Raitt scored her
first significant pop airplay with her hit cover of the Del Shannon classic
"Runaway." 1979 follow-up The Glow, appeared around the same time as a massive
all-star anti-nuclear concert at Madison Square Garden mounted by MUSE
(Musicians United for Safe Energy), an organization she'd co-founded earlier.
Throughout her career, Raitt remained a committed activist, playing hundreds of
benefit concerts and working tirelessly on behalf of the Rhythm and Blues
Foundation. By the early '80s, however, her own career was in trouble -- 1982's
Green Light, while greeted with the usual good reviews, again failed to break
her to a wide audience, and while beginning work on the follow-up, Warner
unceremoniously dropped her. By this time, Raitt was also battling drug and
alcohol problems as well; she worked on a few tracks with Prince, but their
schedules never aligned and the material went unreleased. Instead, she finally
released the patchwork Nine Lives in 1986, her worst-selling effort since her
debut.
Many had written Raitt off when she teamed with producer Don Was and recorded
Nick of Time; seemingly out of the blue, the LP won a handful of Grammys,
including Album of the Year, and overnight she was a superstar. Released in
1991, Luck of the Draw was also a smash, yielding the hits "Something to Talk
About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me." After 1994's Longing in Their Hearts,
Raitt resurfaced in 1998 with Fundamental. Silver Lining appeared in 2002,
followed by Souls Alike in 2005, both on Capitol Records. A year later, a
bootleg-feel live set, Bonnie Raitt and Friends, was released, featuring guest
appearances from Norah Jones and Ben Harper, among others. Raitt stepped back
from the life of a professional musician over the next few years as she dealt
with the passing of her parents, her brother, and her best friend. The break
from recording and touring was redemptive for Raitt in many ways, and she
returned focused and renewed in 2012 with her first studio album in seven years,
Slipstream, released on her own new Redwing label imprint. The album debuted at
number six on the Billboard 200 and would eventually take home the 2013 Grammy
Award for Best Americana Album. In February 2016, Raitt issued her 20th studio
long-player, Dig in Deep, again via Redwing. The album included an unusual cover
of INXS' "Need You Tonight" as well as a Raitt original, "The Ones We Couldn't
Be," dealing with the loss of her parents and brother.

Born in 1939 in Chicago, Mavis Staples achieved wide recognition as lead singer
for the Staple Singers. She first recorded solo for Stax subsidiary Volt in
1969. Subsequent efforts included a Curtis Mayfield-produced soundtrack on
Curtom, a disappointing nod to disco for Warner in 1979, a misguided stab at
electro-pop with Holland-Dozier-Holland in 1984, and an uneven album for Paisley
Park. Staples has a rich contralto voice that has neither the range of Aretha
Franklin nor the power of Patti LaBelle. Her otherworldly power comes instead
from a masterful command of phrasing and a deep-seated sensuality expressed
through timbre manipulation. Both the Staple Singers and Mavis found fresh
audiences stemming from their participation on the CD Rhythm Country and Blues,
and in 1996 she issued Spirituals & Gospel: Dedicated to Mahalia Jackson. Her
next recording project didn't land for another eight years, although Have a
Little Faith on Alligator became her highest-profile release in years. We'll
Never Turn Back appeared three years later in 2007. Staples teamed up with
Wilco's Jeff Tweedy as producer for 2010's You Are Not Alone, which won the 2011
Grammy Award in the category of Best Americana Album. One True Vine, released in
2013, was also produced by Tweedy and featured a mix of old and new songs
written by the likes of George Clinton, Alan Sparhawk (Low), and Nick Lowe.
Staples and Tweedy completed the final studio sessions of Pops Staples, released
in 2015 as Don't Lose This. Later that year, she released Your Good Fortune, a
four-track EP made with Anti labelmate Son Little. For Livin' on a High Note,
her 2016 release, she worked with M. Ward as producer, while Nick Cave, Neko
Case, and Bon Iver were among its songwriters. Shortly after its release, HBO
premiered Mavis!, a documentary.

The Chicago Way is the Alligator debut by the electrifying Windy City bluesman,
produced by Cannon along with label president Bruce Iglauer. The album,

soul-baring vocals. His songwriting is inspired by his deep, homegrown Chicago
roots, his years observing the public while working as a city bus driver on the

Cannon was born in Chicago on February 14, 1968, and grew up in the shadows of
the notoriously tough Robert Taylor Homes. Theresa's Lounge, one of the city's
most famous South Side blues clubs, was nearby. As a child, Cannon would stand
on the sidewalk outside the door, soaking up the live blues pouring out while
trying to sneak a glance inside at larger-than-life bluesmen like Junior Wells
and Buddy Guy. He also heard plenty of blues growing up in his grandfather's
home, and listened to soul, R&B and contemporary rock on the radio.
Cannon bought his first guitar at age 22, and his natural talent enabled him to
quickly master the instrument. Although his initial focus was reggae, he found
himself increasingly drawn to the blues. "It was dormant in me. But when I
started playing the blues, I found my voice and the blues came pouring out." He
absorbed sounds, styles and licks from Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Hound Dog
Taylor, B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, Al Green, Jimi Hendrix, J.B.
Hutto, Lil' Ed and others. Although influenced by many, CannonÆs biting, singing
guitar sound is all his own.
From 1996 through 2002, Cannon played as a sideman for Tommy McCracken, Wayne
Baker Brooks, L.V. Banks and Joanna Connor. But he was determined to prove
himself. In 2001, while continuing to work as a hired-gun guitarist, he formed
his own band, The Cannonball Express. By 2003, he was working exclusively as a
band leader. Cannon's first three albums ù 2007Æs My Woman (self-released),
2011Æs Leaving Mood (Delmark) and 2013Æs Blues Music Award-nominated John The
Conqueror Root (Delmark) ù document his rise from promising up-and-comer to
star-in-the-making.
Toronzo Cannon has become one of Chicago's most recognized and most popular
bluesmen through the sheer force of his music, his songs, his live charisma, and
maybe most impressively, his passion for what he is doing. HeÆs played the
Chicago Blues Festival on nine separate occasions, either as a sideman, a
special guest, a band leader or, most recently, as a main stage headliner. When
heÆs home, Cannon drives a Chicago Transit Authority bus by day and performs by
night. Using every vacation day and day off and working four ten-hour shifts a
week, Cannon arranges his schedule to gig out of town as much as possible. He's
performed in a number of U.S. and European cities and continues to build his
audience one roof-raising show at a time. It isn't easy, but, like all of the
