| Experimental music, almost orchestral at times, with female, |

| For those of you who enjoy the sounds of Asmus Tietchens imagine |
| if you will standing in the bleak dry essence beneath the Joshua |
| Tree National Monument in the Mojave Desert, when your eyes begin |
| to close you percieve the weaving of sultry yet firm feminine |
| German poetry and you slip into the soundscape world of ┤Die |
| Organik┤: a tender yet sometimes malevolent migration of sounds |
| being woven with samples of orchestral noise, instruments and |
| field recordings from places like the Grand Canyon, destruction |
| of Humboldt CA redwoods, the N Judah where it meets the ocean, |
| Berlin traffic at Alexanderplatz, Arizona desert silence, |
| California Desert Silence, drills and other power tool |
| instrumentation and other field recordings. All this should be |
| indulged with many slow and intense breaths. |

| REVIEW - Xeno Volcano and Elektra Sturmschnell are two Swiss |
| artists (he of American origin, living in Switzerland since some |
| years) producing some kind of alien ambient music, cold and |
| disturbing. This collaboration CD is one of the uneasiest |
| listenings I came across lately, the sound is very mininal and |
| distant, an amount of hissing electronic frequencies, metallic |
| noises and electromagnetic waves, on top of which from time to |
| time comes Elektra's voice, cold, atonal, robotic, whispering |
| mysterious German lyrics. If this description made you feel like |
| stop reading the review, just wait, because it's around the |
| fourth listening that "Die Organik" definitely conquered me. |
| Diving into Xeno Volcano's atmospheres is like floating into a |
| parallel dimension, walking into a martian desert, knowing that |
| one won't meet any living form nor hear any sound, apart from |
| Elektra Sturmschnell's distant voice, sounding like a dark and |
| unreachable deity. Desert and deity are indeed two concepts |
| present in tracks like "Elektra Desertqueen" and "Warum Ist Meine |
| Wueste Schwarz", where sounds recorded at night into American |
| wastelands are featured, and the whole record deals, in an |
| enigmatic way, with the theme of deicide. The only similar |
| artists who came to my mind are the most challeging Coil, those |
| of works like "Time Machines". This CD is advised for the most |
| adventorous of you, those looking for new unknown territories. |
| "Die Organik" is not distributed into European shops and is |
| avaible just through the artists themselves. |

| The latest from Xeno and Elektra -- if you were on the West Coast |
| recently, you may well have caught their tour with Uberkunst and |
| other sonic noise kommandos -- is an interesting variation on |
| power-electronics. This is a bit different from their disc from |
| the previous issue: it's more stark, with structures built from |
| minimalist noise and keyboard drone, with far more emphasis on |
| Elektra's eerie and dispassionate spoken-word vocals. It's |
| interesting to see power-electronics used as a backdrop for |
| vocals (as opposed to using vocals as just one more sound source |
| in the mix, which is far more common), especially when the |
| electronics in this case are so minimal -- often, particularly on |
| "Die Organik," nothing more than amp hum in the background or |
| flanged notes reverberating and decaying endlessly. There are |
| moments of bombast, to be sure -- the crash of percussion and |
| surge of noise at the beginning of "Lord Vulture," for instance |
| -- but the vast bulk of sound on this disc is that of looped, |
| minimalist sounds rising and falling. Much of the album is |
| designed to sound both vast and remote, creating the sensation of |
| distance and isolation; it's a very desolate-sounding album, and |
| when Elektra speaks over the wind-tunnel sounds or amp hum, she |
| sounds a great deal like an ice queen holding forth from a |
| forgotten corner of some endless wasteland. There are some really |
| nice drones all over the album, especially on "Elektra |
| Desertqueen" (which is almost nothing but drone until Elektra's |
| voice finally comes in, fed through delay and reverb) and its |
| companion "Elektra Immortal." Judging by the flow of the album |
| and some of the titles, i'd guess this is intended to be a |
| concept album, a set piece in which some kind of narrative flows; |
| tragically, it's all in German, so i have no idea what any of it |
| actually means. You don't really need to know the exact lyrics to |
| get the picture, however, particularly when it's drawn with such |
| bleak, minimalist accuracy as this. Highly recommended to drone |
| fanatics and followers of the spoken word (assuming you grok |
| German).... |

| A brilliant dark soundscape of ambient noise and gothic vocals. |
| Thematically, this deals with a suicide goddess and her "mental |
| throes." The noises involved were recorded in the "deserts of the |
| Southwestern US and other natural wastelands." You can guess from |
| the rather grim sources, this CD creeps slowly through anguishing |
| materials that are both morbid and enticing. It is picturesque in |
| its overwhelming gloom and haunting desolation. Listening to this |
| is a religious experience. I am just captivated the swell of |
| silence and whispers of doom and despair. It is an emotional |
| plunge into the abyssmal orchestration of self loathing. |

| Xeno Volcano and Elektra Sturmschnell are a Swiss dark ambient |
| duo deadset on landing a record on World Serpent (the |
| distribution center for Current 93, Sol Invictus, Coil, Moon Lay |
| Hidden Beneath The Clouds, Chris & Cosey, and other |
| post-industrial art projects). In all likelihood, they have a |
| pretty good shot at it, with a cold, detached aesthetic that |
| merges barren electronics with equally emotionless spoken word |
| poetics. "Die Organik" does come across like the more electronic |
| Current 93 pieces (especially "In A Foreign Land, In A Foreign |
| Town") but with a dominatrix reciting her Nietzchian poetry in |
| German rather than David Tibet and his pantheistic mythologies. |

| "Die organik" is the second collaborative effort of Xeno Volcano |
| and the woman poet Elektra Sturmschnell succeeding |
| "wasserleichentraume". As I haven't listened to their first |
| release I won't compare both of them so I am just going to |
| describe my feelings about this new collection of spoken words |
| written in German. First I have to tell that I just have a |
| smattering of German so it is very difficult for me to define the |
| real nature of Elektra's poems though the very cold and gloomy |
| atmosphere of the musical backdrops would seem to point out that |
| these are not the most cheerful themes which are broached. |
| According to the hardpresse's website, "Die organik " touches on |
| the dark realms of death and suicide.The coldness of Elektra's |
| declamation come with the dreariest and most spatial works of |
| Dave Thayer I've ever heard ( "Lord vulture", "Elektra |
| desertqueen", "Ausgespuckt", "Nie und mehr", "Elektra Immortal"). |
| As the computer Al in "2001 Space Odyssey", Elektra, whose voice |
| is sometimes filtered with echo to create a sort of robotic |
| aspect, controls everything during this sonic funeral journey |
| even lavishing the final kiss synonymous with death at the end of |
| the last track. This album has finally assumed new exciting |
| proportions when I have listened to it in the dead of night. "Die |
| organik" should appeal to fans of dark poetry and spoken words as |
| well as to diehards of ambient music. |

| insert. All the artwork is in harmony with the desert concept and |
| theme of this album... |
| So, despite some uneasy accessible passages, this collaboration |
| offers a deep complex experimental electronic music haunted by a |
| female voice that is well worth discovering. Xeno Volcano and |
| Elektra Sturmschnell will be touring the west coast of the USA |
| from the mid-May to the beginning of July. If you are around, do |
| not miss their performance announced as centered around malice, |
