SAVAS PASCALIDIS has been a pioneer of the German techno scene
since the beginning of the Æ90s. He has released on labels such
as RICHARD BARTZÆs Kurbel Records, Gigolo Records, Cheap
Records, AFFIE YUSSUF's 909 Perversions, Loriz Sounds,
Leitmotiv, Technikart and Thrust and remixed the likes of
AGORIA, LUKE SLATER, WATER LILLY, BINGE & PURGE, CLUB MCM,
SEXUAL HARASSMENT, SUPERSTRONAUT, PUBERTY LOVE and FIX. Disko
Vietnam is the second album from SAVAS PASCALIDIS on
International Deejay Gigolo Records and delivers more of his
unmistakable brand of dark acid techno.
SAVAS began his musical career as a DJ putting down funk and
disco in clubs in and around Stuttgart. After these humble
beginnings he then proceeded to create a significant back
catalogue and finally in 1999 he founded his own label -
Lasergun. In 2002 SAVAS moved to Berlin where once a month he
presents his Disco Galaxy party at the Polar TV club and the
same year saw the debut PASCALIDIS longplayer Galactic Gigolo
come out on International Deejay Gigolo Records. This album
takes up from where ôGalactic Gigoloö left off and delivers a
seriously contemporary update of his sound.
Right from the outset of æDISKO VIETNAMÆ PASCALIDIS puts his
foot down and makes it obvious to all that he wonÆt take any
nonsense. Heavy jacking, synth pulsing, chunky dancefloor
grooves pump steadily out of the speakers and stand tall while
others continuously fall by the wayside. Deep drowning deviance
is ingrained into the sound with a dark druggy fluidity that
bewitches techno boffs while still appealing to the most
fashion conscious starlets.
It is difficult to understand how PASCALIDIS manages to make
music that sounds so futuristic while still retaining so much
old-school style and attitude. He takes certain sounds and
production values from disco and early electro yet still
delivers a thoroughly twenty-first century album. SAVAS takes
from the past and gives to the future and so expands on all the
best elements of disco, acid-electro and straight up techno.
From the jumping acid wiggle of U CAN DO IT IF YOU DANCE to the
thumping disco plod of the title track DISKO VIETNAM to the
serious balls to the wall of RAW MISSION this is an album that
clearly states its intentions. And that is what music needs, it
needs characters that are sure of themselves, characters that
have something to say and donÆt have to wrap their offerings in
useless musical tinsel to get their point across. Every sound
in this album has a purpose and none is there for decoration.
