The band is one of the rising ║ ║ stars in a stagnant deathcore scene, with a sound thatÆs heavier ║ ║ than a stampede of the morbidly obese. Born Hanged/Falsifier [Redux] ║ ║ is a fantastic introduction to the band. This is a re-release of the ║ ║ groups two EPs; copies of the album come with a complementary ║ ║ sledgehammer to your ear drums. Black TongueÆs sound encompasses the ║ ║ bottom-feeding stomp of The Acacia Strain and the apocalyptic groove ║ ║ of HumanityÆs Last Breath. This is the sound of being dragged into ║ ║ Hell through a hole lubricated by tar. ║ ║ ║ ║ Of course, this much unrelenting heaviness can grow a bit stale. ║ ║ Born Hanged/Falsifier [Redux] is basically one 53-minute breakdown ║ ║ that will translate better in the live setting than on record, and ║ ║ thatÆs the bandÆs biggest problem. Its greatest asset is also its ║ ║ most significant issue: too much heavy with nothing else on the ║ ║ palette. Black Tongue doesnÆt pretend to add in melody or ║ ║ technicality to the fray. Because of this, these two EPs are best ║ ║ served individually, where one can properly digest 25 minutes at a ║ ║ time. ║ ║ ║ ║ ItÆs no surprise then that the two best tracks on here are the first ║ ║ tracks to the respective EPs. ôEclipseö brings to mind some sludge ║ ║ influences, adding another layer of filth. ôFalsifierö feels like a ║ ║ Morbid Angel song slowed down, in the best way possible. The sludge ║ ║ roots find themselves throughout the album, bringing to mind how ║ ║ powerful a deathcore Yob or Crowbar could be. Alas, Black Tongue ║ ║ hasnÆt achieved that level of greatness. For what itÆs worth, this ║ ║ set of EPs definitely brings the heavy.
