mavericks, The Pyramids, led by their
inspirational bandleader, Idris
Ackamoor. A quick storyà
Alto saxophonist Ackamoor first met
Margo Simmons (flute) and Kimathi
Asante (electric bass) at College..
After touring in Europe and Africa, the
group recorded three independent albums
(Lalibela in 1973, King Of Kings in
1974 and Birth / Speed / Merging in
1976) and became renowned for their
striking live shows, mixing percussive,
spiritual and space-age jazz with
performance, theatre, and dance. After
migrating to San Francisco to perform
on the Bay Area arts scene, they
disbanded in 1977. Strut now brings the
band together for a new side of
intergalactic jazz funk, afro-beat
grooves and hypnotic licks. Like Fela
and Sun Ra had a massive party and the
whole world was invited. And everyone
was blissed out and happy. All the
