            █  Given the folky-sounding band name, the             █
            █  mellow-looking album cover, and an almost complete  █
            █  lack of notoriety, I was pretty surprised by their  █
            █  sound. This is straight-ahead rock blues, some of   █
            █  it pretty darn good. This Bay Area trio (Gary       █
            █  Wagner - vocals/guitar/keyboards/songwriter; John   █
            █  Haden - bass; Steve Adams - drums) doesn't have a   █
            █  terribly unique sound, so it's not a shock that     █
            █  they didn't stand out in the heady days of rock n'  █
            █  roll in 1970. But they're definitely solid, with    █
            █  an appealing sound that's reminiscent of early      █
            █  Rory Gallagher (with less spectacular guitar but    █
            █  slightly better vocals), bluesy Jimi Hendrix (at    █
            █  his most restrained), and the soulfulness if not    █
            █  the ebulliance of the Spencer Davis Group. In my    █
            █  mind, Wagner is better on the slower, darker songs  █
            █  like "My Eyes Are Getting Heavy" and "How Can You   █
            █  Win" where that soulful quality comes through       █
            █  (both vocally and instrumentally); the boogie       █
            █  blues tracks (e.g. "Lucanna", "Skid Row Runner"),   █
            █  which make up about half the album, show his        █
            █  weakness as a vocalist. I actually found those      █
            █  tracks to be quite forgettable - many, many other   █
            █  bands do that style much better. There are really   █
            █  four standouts here: "My Eyes Are Getting Heavy",   █
            █  "Silver Ghost", "We're All Gonna Burn Together"     █
            █  and "How Can You Win".                              █
