██▓▓ Alongside his longtime peer Wolfgang Voigt, ██▓▓
██▓▓ Joerg Burger (better known as J. Burger) ██▓▓
██▓▓ laid the groundwork for the Cologne minimal ██▓▓
██▓▓ techno scene that arose in the mid-'90s, ██▓▓
██▓▓ with his music as well as his role as a ██▓▓
██▓▓ label owner. Burger and Voigt met in the ██▓▓
██▓▓ early '80s and eventually found a common ██▓▓
██▓▓ passion in music production. As the 1988 ██▓▓
██▓▓ acid house explosion took over London, the ██▓▓
██▓▓ two made an extended visit, where they ██▓▓
██▓▓ reveled in the revolutionary spirit of the ██▓▓
██▓▓ city's burgeoning electronic music dance ██▓▓
██▓▓ culture. This experience convinced them to ██▓▓
██▓▓ begin producing similar musical experiments, ██▓▓
██▓▓ with two of Burger's first tracks appearing ██▓▓
██▓▓ on Thomas Fehlmann's 1989 Teutonic Beats ██▓▓
██▓▓ compilation. By the beginning of the 1990s, ██▓▓
██▓▓ Burger and Voigt spawned Trance Atlantic ██▓▓
██▓▓ Records, which was based in Belgium at the ██▓▓
██▓▓ time, along with the Mono Crome label. After ██▓▓
██▓▓ several remarkable releases on this label, ██▓▓
██▓▓ including Burger Industries' Vol. 1, the duo ██▓▓
██▓▓ moved to Frankfurt, Germany, in 1992. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ In Germany, Burger and Voigt began ██▓▓
██▓▓ collaborating with Ingmar Koch (Dr. Walker) ██▓▓
██▓▓ and Cem Oral (Jammin' Unit) as the ██▓▓
██▓▓ Brotherhood of Structure, resulting in the ██▓▓
██▓▓ track "We Are Structure" and the monumental ██▓▓
██▓▓ Structure label. It was also during this ██▓▓
██▓▓ time in Frankfurt during 1992 that Burger ██▓▓
██▓▓ released his revolutionary Everybody's ██▓▓
██▓▓ Kissing Everyone album as the Bionaut. The ██▓▓
██▓▓ following year saw him move to Cologne and ██▓▓
██▓▓ set up ~Delirium -- later to become ~Kompakt ██▓▓
██▓▓ in 1998 -- the record store that would soon ██▓▓
██▓▓ ignite substantial interest within Cologne ██▓▓
██▓▓ for techno. The second Bionaut album then ██▓▓
██▓▓ appeared on Burger's next label, Eat Raw, ██▓▓
██▓▓ while he simultaneously ran a magazine ██▓▓
██▓▓ called ~House Attack that furthered the ██▓▓
██▓▓ Cologne scene. In the following years, ██▓▓
██▓▓ Burger collaborated with a number of artists ██▓▓
██▓▓ -- Thomas Heckmann, Air Liquide, Voigt -- ██▓▓
██▓▓ for his Ethnik albums and released yet ██▓▓
██▓▓ another well-received Bionaut album, Lush ██▓▓
██▓▓ Life Electronica, in 1995. Next he ██▓▓
██▓▓ collaborated once again with Voigt for the ██▓▓
██▓▓ lush Burger/Ink album, Las Vegas, and began ██▓▓
██▓▓ work on the album Opportunity Knox, which ██▓▓
██▓▓ saw him moving in a slightly new, ██▓▓
██▓▓ increasingly melodic direction. In the ██▓▓
██▓▓ latter part of the 1990s, both the Las Vegas ██▓▓
██▓▓ and Opportunity Knox albums made their way ██▓▓
██▓▓ to America through Matador (with Opportunity ██▓▓
██▓▓ Knox being re-titled Explosion). It was at ██▓▓
██▓▓ this point that Burger began focusing on a ██▓▓
██▓▓ new company, Popular Organisation, composed ██▓▓
██▓▓ of different sublabels -- Popular Tools, ██▓▓
██▓▓ Popular Music, and Popular Sound -- which ██▓▓
██▓▓ focused on dance, pop, and experimental ██▓▓
██▓▓ sounds, respectively. A division of Sony, ██▓▓
██▓▓ his Popular label stands as Burger's latest ██▓▓
██▓▓ accomplishment in his slow rise to ██▓▓
██▓▓ mainstream consciousness -- a remarkable ██▓▓
██▓▓ path when one considers his ability to ██▓▓
██▓▓ remain true to his ambitions while still ██▓▓
