John wiese is known for his many projects (sissy
spacek, bastard noise, wiese & koh) and self released,
small edition 7"s. wiese's instrument is computer, but
his music is not of your typical click and buzz
aesthetic. his releases tend to be cut-up, fierce,
fast paced with occasional soft spots. he doesn't stop
making music and doesn't stop being good! this album
is proof. recorded on xmas 2002.

bubble pulse collects several improv sessions, where
sessions should aptly replaced by blasts, should we
stay true to the content of this (frantic) record. and
all through the listening i sat at a table, a
poltergeist unleashed all around, imagining wiese
performing live, as an up-to-date god of maelstrom of
the like, people flying from the floor to the ceiling
as if held prisoner by merciless tornadoes, the
piled-up speakers trembling seismically, stopping up
and going down abruptly, clashing like flamenco heels
on a wooden pavement. this is nothing liek th
enoise-fer-all scenario you might have imagined
reading my teenage fantasy, though: every square inch
of this record shows exactly the mastership and
control this man has over whatever he's using. a
speed-of-light driven chaos magick dude that, hell,
managed to scare me with his troops of fierce
hurricanes!

once there was a very obscure but brilliant band
called 'man is the bastard', this band played a sort
of grindcore with lots of influences from the
(japanese) noise scene. this band stopped recording
one day, and one of its members continued as 'bastard
noise'. bastard noise created very harsh, but
interesting noise, and collaborated with merzbow,
brume, and others. the man behind this project is john
wiese.
on this cd release under his own name, wiese presents
the softer and more experimental side of his works.
wiese uses a computer to generate all sorts of noises,
and composes noise-tracks from them. as opposed to the
tracks of most noise-acts these tracks are varied and
interesting, they do not hurt your ears and are quite
enjoyable to listen to.
this cd is certainly and interesting option for those
noise listeners who are growing a bit tired of the old
'extreme' stuff, and for people listening to
electro-acoustic music.

john wiese is a name one shouldn't be unfamiliar with.
he works with a band called sissy spacek, is a member
of bastard noise and runs the helicopter label. on
this cd he presents fifteen pieces (according to the
cover) and ten according to the cd itself. john is one
of the few people that work inside the frame work of
noise music using laptops. in less than thirty minutes
he plays stuff, which, if i read the liner notes
clearly, was recorded live in st. louis. wiese plays
his stuff at high energy...looping short fragments,
keep them running for awhile and then he moves into a
new thing. noisy indeed, but wiese's music is not
about playing as many decibels as possible. he crafts
his stuff together with much more care than the
average noiseician with his scrap metal and guitar
effects. in these thirty minutes he explores more
ideas than some others do in their entire career. one
could wonder if such a cd is not too short, but the
energy force that drives this cd makes it quite the
right length.
