CD is limited to 150 copies.. expect a full release soon!
Music has always been in Mike Phipps' (AKA Pulse State) blood. At
age six, he began taking piano lessons, and at the age of fourteen,
Mike got his first (and last, and only) hardware synthesiser -- a
Korg 01/Wfd. He ended up selling that years later when he made the
decision to go completely software.
Pulse State as a music project didn't come into existence until 1997
as an ethereal drum'n'bass project. A few songs were made, and a
couple of CDs released to friends and contacts. However, in 2000 a
drastic stylistic change was made, and from this point forward Pulse
State focused on elektro/synthpop. There were Pulse State songs
given to local DJs and friends here and there between 2001 and 2003,
but no demo or release surfaced until June 2003, when Mike
authorised the net-release of Shimmering and Falling v0.6 to the
industrial/EBM underground. Pulse State began showing up on DJs'
playlists from around the world, and finally in January 2004, the
official Pulse State website came online, replete with free
downloads of two songs, "Repentance" and "Goddess in Motion".
2004 was a very busy year for Pulse State. Under that name, Mike
completed thirteen remixes, including three for the Detroit-based
synthpop band Electrophile, two for the South African synthpop
project Faux, and also for several artists like Ayria,
Sero.Overdose, and Garten der Asche, to name a few. He also made
several new songs, and with the help of exposure on RemixWars.com,
gained the attention of a growing number of DJs and listeners around
the scene. Pulse State also had three live performances late that
year that were received very well, and will have another one in
Indianapolis, IN, on Saturday, 12. March 2005, supporting
Electrophile.
Pulse State is an elektro/synthpop project that occasionally
incorporates elements of ethereal, trip-hop, and EBM. Influences
range from the so-called "future-pop" of VNV Nation and Assemblage
23, to the downtempo pop of Iris and Delerium, to the Gothic
romantic style of Blutengel and L'┬me Immortelle. Almost all of the
Pulse State lyrics deal with emotional issues of some sort. There
are songs to which you may find yourself bouncing, but there are
also slower, more intimate works to be found within Pulse State's
repertoire. Several remixes and/or original works can be found on a
few compilations as well as other artists' releases, and a full CD
is currently being produced with the help of Patrick Hogan of
Electrophile, and should be out in the Summer of 2005. A limited
edition EP called The Innocent Goddess is currently available (for
the time being until copies run out).
2005 is so far a good year for Mike, and for Pulse State!

MORAL DiSCLAiMER: We are very aware of the fact that our releases
contribute to the growing sale losses of record companies.
Unfortunately our style primarily targets small, independant labels
that need sales to survive.
For these reasons we ask you not to distribute this release on public
sites or P2P tools; if more and more receive their music from the net,
artists and labels will have to face even less sells than nowadays.
Please do not consider this release as a substitute to the original, but
only as a way to check out and learn about new music.
We absolutely do not approve of DJs or other individuals that earn
money from pirated music - Don't let them get their hands on it!
By buying the albums you like you disperse the guilt we feel by
releasing this music - Enjoy the music and be fair with the artists!
YOUR support is required to keep them financially alive and producing!
