Release Notes:

Residing in Denton, Texas, Shiny Around the Edges is an
atmospheric band that enjoys libraries, wide-open prairie spaces,
NPR, Sonic Youth bootlegs, Billie Holiday records, and rainy days.
The band strives to create songs that serve as tone poems amongst
the high grasses and wildflowers that make the North Texas prairie
a pastoral wonderland.

On this 4-song EP, Denton's dual-guitar wunderkinds Shiny Around
the Edges put together an impressive soundtrack to the apocalypse.
The first two songs, "Ride" and "David Bowie," sound like they
were recorded in the same bad dream that spawned Sonic Youth's
chiller "Protect Me You." The latter two shift dramatically in
tone, with "In the Heart of the Heart," a simple melody consisting
of undistorted guitar, two sleepy voices and lots of reverb, and
an overwrought, fuzz-heavy rendition of Neil Young's "The Needle
and the Damage Done." While these minimal, caterwauling gems might
not be for all tastes, this brief, and beautifully packaged EP is
a success. Before the mainstream press jumps all over them, allow
me to be the first to say that Jennifer and Michael of Shiny
Around the Edges are this decade's Mecca Normal.
