▐███▄▄ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ London breaks imprint Resin Records re-emerges with a ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ bang at the start of 2005, with a brand new slab of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ vinyl from one of itÆs biggest stars Taishan, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ mastermind behind 2004Æs storming ragga-tinged æBring ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ De BongoÆ 12ö. While the vinyl release of the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Original mix of æBlack Mamba FunkÆ is due to follow ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ imminently through Resin, this first 12ö features two ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ reworkings courtesy of Move Ya! And Steve Lavers, who ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ have created a stir in the UK breaks scene recently ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ with a string of releases on their own Audiobug ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ label. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ On the A-side of this 12ö, Move Ya! & Steve LaversÆ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ remix of æBlack Mamba FunkÆ pretty strips out the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ entire cheeky Benny Benassi æSatisfactionÆ-esque ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ synth riff of the original mix, whilst also ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ rearranging the electro-funk flavoured groove of the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ original into a percussive roller that chops and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ scatters a gravelly male rock vocal and hypercut ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ beatboxing through all manner of digital processing, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ roaring panic-level synths rising up around the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ slamming breaks and seismic bass swells. Definitely ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ several degrees tougher than the original mix, Move ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Ya! & Steve LaversÆ reworking also magnifies the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ shuddering, evil synths to downright sinister levels, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ playing them off against the dark vocals to an ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ excellent result, in fact in my opinion, it beats the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ original hands down. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ On the flip, Move Ya! & Steve LaversÆ dub mix drops ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ out the vocal completely except for some fleeting ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ cut-up syllables, and thereÆs still time for a ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ spacious bongo-laden breakdown where that cheeky ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ synth rip rears its head again, yet this time it ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ seems considerably harder and more distorted ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ alongside the breakbeat fireworks going on behind it. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Another stormer from Taishan that ventures away from ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ his ragga-informed explorations towards percussive ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ electro-funk, and one heck of a start to the year ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ from Resin. Highly recommended. ░██▌▄▀
